  1. Re:Failure on E3 - So, How Did It Go? · · Score: 1

Your comment highlights how E3 had evolved into a show without a focus, and this year's event didn't serve to sharpen that focus, unfortunately.

One of the great things about the spectacle that was the former E3 was that it gave the game industry a ton of coverage from the US mainstream press. What conference exists now that can do that? None of them really - though I hope that VGXpo, PAX, or E for All continue to grow and are able to fill in that gap.

As a B2B publisher/developer event E3 was a failure since many developers were not there; that role seems to have migrated to GDC (in the US). As an event for talking to retailers/distributors I've heard that the new show is too late in the year to be particularly useful.

As an event for journalists, most of the publishers have found that it is cheaper and more effective to have a day-long exclusive event and fly all the journalists out to it.

So what again is the purpose for E3? :-/

Uh... so you don't like episodic content. Have you tried Half-Life 2: Episode One?

    Hey Stary,

I'm one of the IGF judges, though I wasn't involved in judging the student entries this year. I apologize to you on behalf of the judging body that this has happened. It seems that the IGF as an organization tried to be in touch about not being able to access your demo (for whatever reason), but was unsuccessful. We're committed to being clear in our communications and holding a festival that honors all the participants, but in this case we've failed, and I apologize profusely for that.

As another posted alluded to, Alex Dunne, who has run the festival since its inception, recently left CMP Media. I've emailed several other people in the game group, including the GDC director and the person who will be taking over the IGF, and I hope that we can do something to make the situation right. -- oop, I just got a reply back indicating that they're looking to be in touch with you via telephone to have a chat about it.

If you have suggestions for ways we can prevent this from happening in the future, I can assure you as well that we're all ears.

Feel free to drop me an email at madsax <at> satori.org to talk about this further, if you like.
    Best regards,
