  1. Media is god on Who Controls The Linux Media ? · · Score: 1

It's quite apparent that the media is in charge, at least here in America it is. Look at how much power is thrown about when a news story is carried by several major news sources. When you have that much control, you pretty much can make or do whatever you wish. In the case of this article, they had the right to decide not to run the update mostly because they controlled the website. You know, gotta play by their rules when you're at their house....

I see. This is a very illuminating and eye opening article. I've clearly seen visions of this t"eye"pe of thing coming around. In order to view all the options, one must keep an eye on the proceedings and remain focused on the outcome. Ran out of puns, sorry... --

I'm not sure what it is that you wish us to discuss in this thread? Surely both topics of freedom of speech over the Internet and the Mettalicrap vs. Nabster issues have been beaten to death. Seems like an open thread ripe for the trolls, flamers, and bored kids with nothing to do....

Yeah, an' I think what pisses me off the most is that most of the dotcommers that are here and making a lot of money are actually from the midwest or east coast. You can tell the natives because, like the Indians of old, we've been forced out of the good areas due to cost of living. I would love to live close to the beach or anywhere near the Bay Area and feel the cool afternoon ocean breeze on my face but there is no way I can afford the $500,000 for a one bedroom house in the alley. Damn tourists....

So I feel that if you can't build your own computer, you shouldn't own one in the first place! Just like a car; if you can't drive it and maintain it, you really shouldn't be behind the wheel. (Granted, you can't kill someone with a computer, but the stupidity is still quite apparent!) People think they can be considered computer-savvy just because they bought one... don't know how to turn it on or off, but HEY, they own a computer, right? I always like the tale of Tech Support telling a caller to box up his computer and ship it back to the manufacturer because he's too damn stupid to use it.

  7. Not worried... on Could This Be The End Of The Internet? · · Score: 1

Funny, but I have the sense that no matter what anyone does to try and regulate the Internet, it'll all be just fuel to power the creative curiosities of those who enjoy breaking software. In other words, it'll be hacked. There isn't anything made nowadays and for a long time that won't be cracked open and laid out for all to peruse. Kinda negative, I know, but you gotta be realistic about these things.

Instead of flaming us over here (Bay Area) for something which we have even no connection with (A Linux tradeshow in Kansas city, in case you weren't able to read) I could possibly see you using that aggression and anger toward something more useful, like rewriting a kernel, or taking E. Wood Speed-reading, or something by which mankind might benefit from.

What I find humourous about this is that these "Internet Laws" are or will be made up by corporate and professional legals who have little or no techno-experience. I'd be willing to bet that they probably have never heard of the terms: "open source", "Linux-driven server", "OpenVMS", and the list continues. What they should do if they really feel a need for these laws is gather together a type of consortium consisting of a multi-national group of mature "techno-geeks" who would moderate and ensure fair and properly written bindings. Hopefully that came out ok, My mind works much faster than my fingers can keep up....

AUUUGGH! I was waiting for someone to mention this! I'd like to offer, and believe whole-heartedly that there is NO such thing as the "Big Bang" (I even hate the sound of that!) Space is infinite insofar as the human race can understand. To even think that we can grasp this concept with our very limited five senses (look at what band of wavelength we can "sense" compared to how much we've been able to detect with instruments) would be extremely inane! To try and think that everything started as one gigantic clump of matter and at a single moment, exploded with such force, expelling fragments to far reaches of space... It just sounds so stupid! What was in space before the matter "ball" exploded? Something had to occupy it, otherwise it wouldn't exist, correct? No, there's just too much error in that theory to support. I'm sorry, but to me, space has always been there and will always be there, stars and galaxies in a never-ending dance, birthing and dying in million year cycles, minute life forms on tiny planets living a ten thousand year evolution to finally die off, either to be replaced after a few hundred thousand years with new species, or the planet finally giving in to the pull of it's parent star or stars and plunging into the fiery mass, only to be reborn again after a million years... -but the human race think they have it all figured out! The usual attitude that everything is made for their existence.... Sorry, had to vent, I just get so pissed when I hear or see those two "B" words. Thanks for letting me bend your eyes.

Looking over the ad, I waxed a bit nostalgic... for a moment. Then my senses came back and I realized that if I had lots of money to throw away, this would possibly be one of the things I would buy. Sorry, while this is neat and kinda cool, I just don't see it as having any kind of value. I especially would NOT pay the kind of money that they are looking for! (125K and STILL not made minimum bid!!) For that kind of money, I could rent a decent room in someone's partitioned garage here in the San Jose area! Gots better things to buy...
