  1. Re:On the road? on The Bugatti Veyron · · Score: 1

And what's the point of spending thousands of $$$ in a diamond ring when you can buy a cheap ring made of glass, that looks the same ?
What's the point of spending hundreds of $$$ in perfume when all you buy is 95% ethanol with some fragrance in it ?
What's the point of buying a Rolex when a simple Casio is sufficient ?
    This is called luxury.
Buying a 1.000.000 car is luxury, and there's no logic with luxury. The people able and willing to buy such cars (how many of the people are there one earth ? 100? 500?) don't care how much it costs, they just want to buy "the most powerfull supercar currently in production".
And as you said, driving at 250+ MPH is not even feasable on highways. They will just stick to circuits...

I currently work for an french car manufacturer, and we're just about to release a car model that is able to warn you if you're about to quit your lane (it will be sold in 5/6 months). The system is based on sensors that "read" the road, especially the white lines. If you cross a line without using your indicator (which is what happens when you're falling asleep), the car detects it and warns you: the seat vibrates on the left if you're deviating on the left and vice-versa.

  4. Don't see what it has to do with reproduction... on Human clones priced at $50,000 · · Score: 1

Usually, when you have a child, it is because you love your partner and you have decided to share this "experience". Your child has half your genes and half the genes of your partner. But in cloning, 100% of the genes of the clone are identical to the father's genes for example. Where 's the share then ? Don't you find weird to breed a child that looks exactly like you, that has the same genetic weaknesses as you, and that could be your twin ? I personaly find very selfish to "carbon-copy" yourself to have a child. Alternative solutions exist (in vitro fecondation, hormones treatments) for people that have problems giving birth and if all these methods fail, why not thinking to adoption ? Your child will not have the genes of the mother and father, but it is also the case in cloning (the mother's genes aren't present). Apart from that, it would be interesting to see people's opinion on this problem in relation with their geographical location. I come from France (sorry for my bad english) and I think that in Europe we are more likely to refuse heavy genetic engineering such as cloning than in the US (I'm not talking here about genetic therapy, which is, from my point of view, a good thing). Am I right ?

  5. Sorry, not the first one... on Wave Driven Generators · · Score: 1

I don't think this is the first power station that uses waves. In France, we already have such a power station at La Rance for many years (the turbines are classical ones, though). By the way, even if the principle looks interesting, we are experiencing big problems because the mud is sticky and fills the holes containing the turbines...
