I must first appologise for the heartlessness and jaded cynicism which is to follow...
Now that that is out of the way... I must say I was thrilled when I heard about Columbine, and the two smaller school shootings before. I was proud and happy that people finally snapped and did what I could only wish to do throughout my high school days.
Then of course I was severely disappointed and dismayed by the ensuing "rat on the freaks" phone lines and further removal of student's rights. It only took two years for the 'enlightened' of slahsdot to realise it, which you would assume to be the first place to get it, considering this is the bastion of nerds everywhere.
Alas, the shootings will not change much... People are too stupid to change. Children will not think of the consiquences of their bullying. Parents will not think of the consiquences of making fun of others in front of their children. The media will not think of the consiquences of their biased sensationalism.
And the shootings and suicides will continue, because we are human and an ideal place where nobody is persecuted will not happen in our time.

Well, probably in such a way that cannot be defeated by a guy sitting half naked over a weekend and recreating the Update agent for a free server he also recreates. It's not as though update streams are new complex technology.
Does any one else find it slightly offensive that the "Best gamers" list is solely comprised of console gamers? Furthermore that largely the console or standup games in question are fairly old?
How about Galaga or Space Invaders?
It seems a little silly to forget all the people that play quake or UT, or doom, or god forbid even the multitudes that play Roller Coaster Tycoon or Sim City or Moo2
Perhaps also you are the one that is lacking wisdom by making false assumptions regarding age and immaturity. The company I work for has dozens of workers under the age of 25 in all jobs. We also have older people because my company does *not* discriminate via age. And btw, my company is doing perfectly fine.
Also look at google. They are certainly not doing poorly, and are pretty much the stereotypical startup sort of company with a chef and young workers and a quirky environment.
Age does not denote wisdom; wisdom denotes wisdom.
After the attecks in Feburary (and before) a few commercial entities were working on such a solution. Most involve automated filtering script implimentation based on traffic analysis. A few others use interesting and innovate methods to garner information about such attacks for proscecution (sp). There are a very few that do both, and usually with a few other things thrown in for good measure.
I mean honestly, don't do it while their sitting at their machine, but people's accounts and badges SHOULD be revoked BEFORE they are informed of their termination. Then nobody does anything rash, nobody causes a few million dollars worth of deletion or PR issues. Also it is significantly easier to illegitimately make yourself an account with a valid login than without...

Commercial honeypots like these prolly are a bit more sticky than handcrafted ones.

Honestly though it's much better to know where people are and what they are doing, than wondering where they are and what they are doing.
Also if someone does copy their work in a way they wish to prevent they may have a more difficult time, because the new copy can say "I didn't copy such and such show, I copied this mod, which is obviously not related to such and such show, because you didn't do anything to stop *them*"
IANAL - I am not a Lunatic.
In all honesty the best part of D&D was the Final Fantasy trailer on before it. 'Took me nearly 30 seconds to realise that it was a cartoon. Let us all hope that this film at least vaguely approaches decency while we wait for the Lord of the Rings.
The internet is a perfect place for everyone and anyone to act like they would like to act in real life, and be who they wish they could be. Given this, which geeks do you know wouldn't want to have social and democratic enlightenment?
Heh, humanity has known for how many years now that our propigation was genetic/hereditary? It's been hundreds of years. People have known that to get a 'perfect baby' you and your sexual partner would have to be perfect as well (or at least half of each of you, and extremely lucky).
Still for hundreds of years people haven't chosen partners based on perceptable genetic quality. Far too often desirable partners are singled out for their looks, and what they wear and how cool they are.
So mankind made the greatest technological leap: have a good smart kid without having to give up that ditsy blond or sugar daddy.</sarcasm>
