This makes me ask the following questions:
If he meant the GNU GPL then why didn't he say that instead of saying "open-source"?
Did he say "open-source" instead of GNU GPL because he does not know what he is talking about?
Is MS really trying to say "If a license does not allow us to take the work and ideas of others for our own profit then its a bad license." ?
Mr Allchin, if you can not say what you mean then could you please shut your hole?
When they started making their own video cards they stopped letting other board manufacturers use their chips. What foolish company would sign up with them again knowing that when 3Dfx starts making money and their own boards they will most likely lose their rights to use 3Dfx chips on their boards. Its an expensive risk I don't see companies taking. Since nVidia is better anway, their is really no reason to. Besides, 3Dfx only wants other companies to help make their chips popular. Once (if) they are popular (again) they will just repeat their past actions and burn all manufacturers that sign up to use their chips.
May 3Dfx RIP.
Yesterday on National Public Radio I heard a report about the cost of an education continuing to rise faster than inflation. It increased 4.5 percent this year. I look at requiring laptops as a way of passing more of the expense on to the student. So if tuition increases and students are required to buy more of their supplies then where is all of the money that the schools are saving and making going?
The author points out the many problems encountered when writing software for a PC. I agree with many of them, but did feel some were exagerated. What I want to konw is did the author forget that Windows and DirectX is made by the same company behind the XBox? Windows and DirectX was suppose to allow programmers not to worry about what hardware in the box. Every XBox will be the same, but it will still be running on Microsoft software which means it will still have problems. I really wish Microsoft would pick a market and concentrate on making stable software for that market instead of jumping on every bandwagon and doing a half-ass job.

Money is the bottom line. Actually, its every line. Now be a good little sheep and get in the line.

I feel Apple should be the first to license it. After all, Apple is the company that tried to say they own the trash can icon.

My employer wants to know how much it costs to place a job ad on Slashdot? Or is it free if the ad simply mentions Star Wars, Linux, or The Who?
