well, sure.. there's all sorts of software you can use with a wireless connection. Handscape, multimail pro, avantgo, etc. There's even an irc client for palmos, and you can use these wireless or with a wired modem.. but we were talking about the hardware.. ah, yes..

Do you know what AvantGo is, or are you just trolling? If you really are mistaken, AvantGo is a company that makes PalmOS and PocketPC web browsers, and bundles them with a service that downloads web pages into your device when you sync with your desktop. AvantGo makes no hardware at all - certainly not a wireless modem for the Handspring.

With Palm's next generation of devices coming out in 2001, the VIIx is just a last attempt to milk the PalmOS 3.5 for what it's worth, and sucker VII users into getting the VIIx for the extra memory. When the next generation of Palms comes out in 2001, all the current Palms, including the Claudio Shiffer, will be on their way to obselete.

It'll be like having a 486sx when the Pentiums come out.

  6. VIIx on The new Palm VIIx · · Score: 1

The VIIx is better than the Visor because the Visor doesn't have wireless access.. Sure, you could buy the cellular springboard modem for it, but then you still have to buy an ISP. The VIIx comes with Palm.net, which is an ISP and has e-mail. Besides, the translucent color case of the visor might be cool for kids, but the plastic breaks easier and the buttons are crappy. Nice try Visor, but your "good looks" are not for the more professional users that are spending the money.

Harken slapped the mule to get it going. With heavy feet, the creature ambled on down the road away from the trading post. Harken had made his monthly foray into civilization, once again loading the mule with everything from waybread to a large stone sledge.

As they made their way down the road and the outpost faded into the countryside, Harken slapped the mule again. The mule had not stopped, or shown any signs of slowing, but Harken felt like slapping it so he did. Harken was a man who liked hitting things.

The journey from the outpost to Harken's den would take four days. It was always the worst part of the month - the eight days to and from tne outpost to restock his supplies. He guessed the mule liked it, however, because it was all the walking the mule was allowed to do.

Monotonous though the journey was, it was necessary. The monthly allowance from his master only afforded the necessary supplies for the month - there was not even enough left over for a room at the outpost and a woman for the night. But then, his master demanded secrecy, and Harken was not a man to risk displeasing the master.

The mule hated Harken. It hated him with every fiber of its being. It was hard being a mule to begin with, being the bastard child of horse and donkey, but being Harken's mule was even worse. The man left it tied up for three weeks of every month, left there to stand and sleep in its own feces. Then, on these trips, Harken loaded the mule until its back felt like breaking, and slapped it all the way back to the den.

The mule was not keen, and never considered itself so. It did pride itself in doing a bit of thinking every now and then, when it wasn't focused on hating Harken, and it decided that it would have to formulate a plan. Someway to rid itself of Harken and the whole business.

Four days later, after Harken had unloaded the mule and was preparing to tether it again, the mule suddenly bucked and kicked him in the head. Laying dizzy on the ground, Harken opened his eyes just in time to see the mule's hooves coming down upon his chest, crushing his ribs, as the mule charged off into the wilderness.

I hate to say it, but Napster has not played its cards well. It picked fights with people who are more equipped than it. Now, it's in court and in trouble, doing damage to personal autonomy and freedom of speech.

It should have played the "Microsoft Java" card - and done what Microsoft did with Java. Make partnerships. Pretend to play along. Pretend to be friendly - all the while dragging its feet, and ever-so-slightly pushing the bounds of that friendship.

Sure, Microsoft ended up in court over Java, too. But it was a diffent battle - it was a battle over standards, not a battle over freedom. Had napster "played friendly" with the record labels, instead of confronting them, they would be in less heat now, and still doing what they've been doing.

Brent put down the hardback book he had bought at Barnes and Noble. It was a great book, really, describing all sorts of mixed drinks. He was lucky to have found it on the sale rack. It was thin, what some would call a "coffee table book" - it had a drink and a picture on each page.

Brent had bought it for more than a coffe table ornament, though. He was teaching himself how to make all sorts of drinks, so that soon he could invite Sharon over and impress her.

Brent had never been a big drinker, really. He had done his mandatory drinking during college, but that had mostly been light beer, and he only ever had enough to give him courage to approach girls. Once or twice, he had actually spoken to a female partygoer, but had never scored.

Now he was an adult, a great big member of the working world. He was in marketing. Sharon was in advertising, and they were working together on a project for two short weeks. This was his chance to make an impression, to stand out, to show someone in the world that he was worth something, and not just another marketoid with no real future.

Sharon was a real prize, too. Giant red curls bouncing down the back of her neck, and a beautiful, pert chest that a man would give anything to touch. Brent was determined to touch it. But, of course, he wasn't about to try sober.

And so, he mixed the martini according to the directions in the book, and took a gulp. He nearly coughed his lunch up then and there! Being a retired light beer drinker, he wasn't ready for the potency of the vodka. Hopefully Sharon didn't like martinis.. He didn't know if he could get one down...
