  1. Doubt it. on 17" and 19" inch iMacs Coming in 3Q · · Score: 5, Insightful

Seriously doubt the validity of this one. It's a single source w/ no history of getting Apple rumors right.

My guess is Quantas is going to be making displays for Mac towers, and the author thinks all Apple computers are iMacs.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it were so, but I'm not holding my breath.

Remember, slashdot got hoodwinked by the "iWalk" Apple PDA hoax twice.

  2. Is Raskin really an expert? on Jef Raskin Talks Skins · · Score: 1

Raskin is often introduced as a UI guru and the father of the Macintosh. Why?

In every account I have read of the creation of the Mac, Raskin had a product idea an a name. Jobs came in, threw everything out but the name, and created the Macintosh. "Macintosh" is a great name, and Mr. Raskin deserves credit for it, but, to the best of my knowledge, not much else.

AFAIK, Mr. Raskin's only contribution to UI design (aside from a myriad of articles and speeches lableing everyone else's ideas idotic) is the PET, a computer he designed after leaving Apple in a huff. I think he sold about six of them.

When Mr. Raskin creates a UI that people use and is successful, we should listen to him. Until then, I wish he would just pipe down.

  3. Missing a great iPod feature on Rio Riot and Lyra Personal Jukebox · · Score: 1

Most people that haven't used an iPod probably don't realize how great the "hot synch" feature of the iPod is- just plug in the firewire cable, iTunes is launched and your music is synched with the computer. If you regularly add songs ir whole albums to your mp3 collections, it's great not to have to hunt through the file system to find new addtions and drag them to your player. You can do it all manually on your iPod if you choose, but having this done automatically is great.

  4. Wrong Font on Apple iWalk: Mac OS-X based PDA? · · Score: 1

I understand this hoax has been exposed- but one cant help but notice that "iWalk" in not in the Apple Garramond font that has graced all apple products since the orginal mac (at least mac and mac related stuff- and the latter apple II line). It's close- but it ain't right.
