  1. SGI VizServer? on Video Capture from an X11 Window? · · Score: 1

Check out SGI's VizServer program. It's designed to render video on a massive system, compress it on the fly, send it over the network, and play on the viewing workstation (thus eliminating super-expensive graphics hardware on the desktop, while increasing big-iron graphics hardware sales). Doesn't sound dead on, but maybe there's something similar in the works.

  2. MS Project and Outlook? on Apple Announces the Fate of Shake · · Score: 1

MS did exactly that with MS Project and Outlook..... just consider it karma

  3. Uptime? on March Netcraft survey · · Score: -1, Flamebait

So how do they count all the IIS servers that are only up 30 minutes a day?

  4. What's a blog? on AOL Buying Up Blogs · · Score: 1

    So what's a blog anyway?

  5. What platform? on Old Sierra Games Breathe Anew · · Score: 1

Is this Win only? I don't see a single mention of any platform / system requirements on their site......

  6. Use an iPod instead for music on FCC Petitioned to Restrict 2.4GHz Band · · Score: 1

Radios are all well and good, but I don't use them anymore. I've got every song I could ever want on my iPod, and it plays crystal clear music all the time in my truck through my Alpine (which happens to be XM capable - the irony of it all).

  7. IBM PPC's don't use AltiVec on Red Hat To Support PowerPC, AltiVec · · Score: 1

A couple of years back, IBM told everyone it had no interest in licensing or implementing the AltiVec instruction set. So this only affects Moto chips, and has no effect whatsoever on IBM hardware.

  8. Re:Good way to make inroads. on Red Hat To Support PowerPC, AltiVec · · Score: 5, Funny

And maybe, then Adobe will drop Photoshop on Windows, and make everyone use Linux. And maybe then, Microsoft will go out of business. And maybe then, Adobe will open source Photoshop, and make it free for everyone. And maybe then, Apple will give away its computers as free community property.......

  9. Re:$.02(US) is for producer, not consumer on More on MPEG4 · · Score: 1

Most likely you will enter your credit card number for "validation that you are of legal age to view", then receive a magic charge 3 months later that you have no clue what it's for. But it's not worth the $6 to spend the hassle to go through the fraud research at the credit card company to take care of it......

  11. LDAP!!!!! on What Kind of Books do You Want? · · Score: 2, Interesting

LDAP LDAP LDAP!!!! God, there needs to be a universal book showing multiple platforms (Linux, Solaris, AIX, MacOS X), multiple servers (OpenLDAP, iPlanet, etc), and how to set them up for authentication, mail directories, mount points, hosts, etc..... I've been through multiple books and how-to's so far, and none truly explains how to authenticate multiple platforms. They concentrate on how to compile and/or install, and assume you can get the rest from there!

  12. SGI does on UNIX Internship Programs? · · Score: 2

Hey, just wanted to let you know that SGI has plenty of UNIX interns throughout the year.
