  1. Re:Scox yesterday.... on Red Hat Cornering SCO in Delaware · · Score: 1

Others have reported during past SCOX discussions that there are no SCOX options, either put or call. Using what others have replied (namely that selling short exposes you to unlimited downside whereas a put bounds downside to 100% of value), if you were so inclined to make a bet against SCOX I would recommend puts over going short. Going short is really not something for anyone other than professional (really institutional) investors. It can be very painful, and in the case of SCOX has been very painful. Stay away.

  2. Yeah, I used to get his e-mails on Disgruntled Fan Arrested, Indicted For Spam Attacks · · Score: 1

I finished my graduate work at U Penn last year, and I recall for a while getting angry Phillies rants virtually everyday from Phil Hagen of the Daily News or an assortment of Philadelphia Inquirer writers. Of course I never though they were from any of these writers. Interestingly, his venom was reserved for the franchise, nary a racist word in them. On the other hand such an angry Phillies fan I've never seen. The messages stopped sometime early last year, maybe as the Phillies blossomed. But I can only presume his anger grew over the summer. Racism and unchecked anger at your home team equals no playoffs.

  3. Re:Yahoo's relevance on Yahoo Buying Inktomi · · Score: 1

Man you guys are out of it. Yahoo, as sad as this may seem, has a market capitalization of approximately 10.5 billion dollars. This valuation is clearly crazy. However, these guys have revenues around a billion dollars a year. And even in this era of horrible online ad revenues they still managed to make positive net income in the September quarter. They are looking to have 2 million paying subscribers by year end. Though advertising revenues are down they are more bullish than AOL about the prospects. And, in direct relevance to today's topic, they will have about $110 million in revenues from search. I would have to say Yahoo! is still relevant.

  5. Odyssey of the Mind on Olympic Committee Cracks Down On Domain Owners · · Score: 1

Many years ago a rather large and significant international competition for elementary through college students called Olympics of the Mind was forced to change its name (now Odyssey of the Mind) by the purveyors of what I once thought to be the finest example of international interaction. Of course we shouldn't be surprised that what something seems to be at its root is radically different when you consider the politics and economics of its organizing body.
