WHY ARE YOU TAKING THE ADVICE OF RANDOM FOOLS OFF SLASHDOT? Go find out what syncookies first. Find out why syncookies were put in. Then find out what this attack is supposed to do. Then think for your self - do I want to protect against a known attack that has successfully brought down large sites, or do I want to turn that protection off because some fool suggested it on slashdot because I heard about a new scary attack?
If you are truly worried, there are other things you can do - look at your routers, firewalls, etc. Also, look at other OS'es. OpenBSD doesn't have syncookies - why not?
HOW THE HELL IS PARENT INFORMATIVE?! WHAT THE HELL ARE THE MODERATORS SMOKING?!
Hey Kid, put down that TCP/IP stack and move away from the keyboard. There are better things you can do other than pretending to be a security expert. Maybe you can go help spend $700bil.
OK, just took a quick look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EULA - you're right. But a plain EULA, with the software not returnable, seems to be unenforceable at this point. In US.
By killing the first sale doctrine. There is next to no resale value for Spore now. Why would you buy a used Spore game from, say, ebay, especially if 3 or 5 installs were used up?
Because EA has a contract with those places that sell the games, or have a contract with their distributor. If they render such a situation, then it is their fault.
You seem to be of the opinion that it is OK to fuck the customers over. You must have been BOHICA'ed quite often.
Have you been through one? 1/3 of it goes to your attorney, _IF_ you get anything. And since it's treated as salary, another 25% to 1/3 goes to withholding.
And if you go to the trouble of suing them, you are out $10k out of your pocket for up front attorney fees.
"Talk to My Lawyer" is not the answer to everything. It should be the answer of last resort.
People who need a job and can't afford to be without one don't have that luxury. I have a friend who had to go on short term disability, and the manager piled on 37 individual objectives in his annual review for him to meet. He was given 22 work days to meet that. Of those 22 days, he was already approved and scheduled 10 days off for surgery and shit.
37 individual objectives, one of which took another person over a year to work on without success.
Can you say, set up to fail?
And what about H1Bs? Oh, wait, even though they are here legally, they deserve all that shit piled on them too, right? Especially in at-will states, where they can be fired for no reason, and will be deported?

Probably off some apple ][ archive somewhere. I remember using GEM for it. Hmm... I need to start up my Apple //gs again.
You need to learn what is the difference between the NT kernel, and the Win32 layer.
ITYM WinMe. After all, doesn't Vista just reek of WinMeToo?
And if Microsoft thinks they can just repackage Vista into Windows 7, that will become WinMeHarder
Hmm, if your Karma is excellent, and you start out as +1, and I start out as +3, my Karma must be stupendous!
And you have no open shares, and anonymous browsing of your windows network is turned off, etc? I agree more with your #3 statement.
And with full access to the network, it is impossible to get a password or login?! What are you smoking, and can you share?

Mr Jolly Folly.
What happens when you're not playing the fucking game, and it's still running in the background, screwing with your stuff?

Problem is this - it doesn't even say secure rom, nor does it tell you how often does it call home, or how many times you can activate.
That is what's going to get them into trouble.

Just because you stayed at Holiday Inn last night doesn't make you a lawyer, so stop pretending to be one. KTHXHAND
WTF have you been smoking?! Show ONE citation where the courts have upheld EULAs.
And you think Gamestop corporate management isn't going to notice people returning the games un-opened?
And you don't think they will be pissed, and send the message back to EA?
I guarandamntee you it would. And they would notice.
The supply/logistics people keep close tabs on shit like this, and the return rates are tracked closely.
Well, no. Clearly they should have an online website with playing cards that you can, uh, play with.
No no no.
All you want is to confirm that the user really wants to perform that action, right?
All you need is an "Accept or Deny" message box.
Worked great for Vista!

Isn't this another reason not to use blobs?

Mucking Foron.
Damnit, what do you have against furry pr0n?! Some of the finest people I know are furries! Or so they say. *ahem*
I know of a guy who used to go around installing mainframes as exchange replacement servers.
See, all these baby trolls who think they know it all. Before you mod parent as troll, go read about LPARs.
Why can't mod points be given only to intelligent modders?
Dude,
Just go with the old BSD license. I believe you're looking at Clause 4, iirc.
