I don't think this is correct. An HDTV that does 1080i can't do 1080p, because that isn't part of the spec. the highest progressive rez is 720p. Lucas is using special cameras to do 1080p 24fps recording, but that's cause he has money. Perhaps this is where the confusion is coming in?
but how is a gel-like button trademarked? _is_ it trademarked? That's why I excluded the apple logo itself, I understand why they have to go after that. I just don't understand how they can threaten any site with _screenshots_ of its skin without treading on some sort of rights.
If you can explain how apple is losing money off of _windows_ users downloading an aqua theme, then please enlighten me! I don't mean how apple "could" lose money sometime in the vague future, and I don't mean the use of the apple logo itself. Hasn't this "look and feel" issue been put to rest after the whole Apple vs MS thing?
I was actually thinking of buying FLCL too, but the 6300 yen total price scared me off. that and the first disc has no english subs.
my solution for getting around region 2 is to pop the disc in my computer, which has a Dxr2. it's really easy to get region hacks for it. then, I can play an episode and record it on my digital8 camcorder. A lot of them can actually record through their video outputs. The quality isn't as good as the dvd, but it's cheaper than buying an region-free player.
note, the above is all legal under fair use: making a copy for compatibility and personal use. so screw off.
Has anyone heard anything relating to price? I mean, we all knew a subscription fee was coming, so this news is really no surprise. But I want to know how much they plan to charge.
On top of that, are they going to lock out systems like OpenNap? There are a few servers that have at least as many songs as the official servers, so won't everyone just start using those?
Things become uncool once _everyone_ likes it. Linux is cool because no one uses it. Five years down the line when everyone is using it,/. will have moved on to something more cool because no one uses it. Or how about those stupid scooters. One day everyone had them, and they instantly became "overdone" and thus not cool. Likewise, anime will have a big surge in popularity, then once the trend-seekers (NOT -settters) move on it will go back to noise level from whence it came. I think everyone knows that cool kids merely latch onto someone else's trends, whether they be oppressed minorities (blacks or geeks) or marketoids like Mattel and Sharper Image.
no, you could claim prior art, but _only_ if it was the _same_method_. geez people, they're not patenting the _act_ of indexing, they're patenting their method!
can't we create a "patent FAQ" and avoid this stupidity every time?
the latest cars that use electricity are hybrids: they use a gas and electric motor. The batteries are charged not only when the gas motor runs but also when you break. I don't think anyone is pushing electric-only anymore. Rather, I think people have realized that hybrids are the future.
DVD fans have known for a while that THX certification is basically a sticker you can buy. If you pay Lucas enough money, he'll give you THX certification for your DVD. My guess is this applies to these systems too. read this little rant on dvdfile.com for info about what I'm talking about.
How long will it be until Jon Katz pounces on this one and releases another derivative article talking about how geeks are kept down in school? Extra points for the number of times he'll mention columbine!
I took the AP in Pascal, and it wasn't so bad. Most of the time was spent on concepts, like linked lists and sorting methods, etc. I don't think we touched the computers very much at all.
That said, the move to Java is a Good Thing. This frees students from needling around with memory management and helps them focus on the concepts they should be learning. Also, C++ is an ugly bastard language. Forcing students to learn OO also forces them to learn good programming methods.
Java is great. Error catching is great, a main() function for each class is great, the garbage collection is great. I can't see how this is anything but a step up from C++.
As for pascal or smalltalk, et al, I think it's preferable to teach kids the language they will most likely use in the future. Most colleges teach in Java, so Java it is.
I saw a very interesting Nova documentary about the Hindenburg which claimed that the hydrogen was not the cause of the explosion. Basically, the outer skin was painted with powdered aluminium (I think), which is what we use for rocket fuel today. Hydrogen burns blue, not orange like all the eyewitnesses say the zeplin did. Also, it remained aloft quite long into the fire, which wouldn't make sense if the hydrogen was burning.
Maybe someone has some more details, but the gist of the show was that hydrogen can be made safe for airships.
I had a teacher who saw colors "wrong". He wasn't colorblind, but the colors he saw were different from what everyone else saw. He had problems distinguishing odd colors that we would think are very different.
how will you deal with duplicate entries? hopefully you have some code to pick only the first one, right?
well putting in just a guess activates the lameness caps filter, so here is some lowercase filler

I'd suggest that anyone blocking 0-level comments read the ones below. they basically say that this poster is full of shit.
not quite. that seems to be an internal link?

I tried replacing "primates" with ximian.com but it didn't work either.
gnome news is /.ed, where can I get the patch?
nope. the Quake _1_ engine was designed so that there was zero overdraw. every poly drawn was needed, and no extra pixels were covered up.

Is it possible to run both evolution and nautilus yet? I had heard there were problems

maybe they were going by volume?
I checked a couple of the sites:
InsaneClownPosse.com
gcsextreme.com
extreme-offroad.com
are no longer listed. So at least they take action quickly... is this such a bad thing?
serif fonts are more readable on _paper_. Sans-serif fonts are more readable on the screen.
MY GOD! A new program requires MORE system resources than its two-year old predecessor??? what is the world coming to???
