Funny and all, but enough with the Mormon stuff, it may have an impact on his writing, but discussing the religion outside of the context is fairly pointless, and off topic, not to mention annoying to someone who is sick of religious debates.
*laugh* that was what I wanted to know in my first post. shadows have been sort of a symbol of evil throughout the history of literature *shrugs*
black has symbolized evil, and white, good, for ages. I'm sure that may have stemmed from racism once upon a time but i don't consider that exactly racist anymore. and i didn't think the average person did either. that's what i meant by reading into it too much.
I fell in love with Ender when i read "Ender's Game" but every book after that was a disapointment compared to the first, but still good reading.
I think Card's style is interesting... the way he talks a lot about whats going on inside the minds of his characters. I enjoy more sci-fi books than pure fantasy, and I havent found many I enjoy more than Card, but then I am picky about the style I read. Mind recomending something else?:)
Hmm, I don't think this should be modded down... it is an excellent point, and put much better than the previous post by Anonymous Coward declaring Card to be a racist homophobe. I wouldn't say I am bothered, but it is nicely ironic that he would use Achilles as the villain's name, being that he is a hero of Greek mythology.
While I'm replying here, the Anon coward i mentioned above... I think reading into the symbolism of the use of Shadow in the title is a bit of overkill, dont you think?
I could throw in my $0.02 on the Mormon comments but that would be off topic:)
I agree with what you've said, and I think this entire thing is just... well, kinda silly. Vendors are over paranoid of piracy. It's going to happen no matter what they do.
I'm a MUD addict and I actually paid for a client called ZMUD (because I use it so damn much and I feel Zugg should get something for his work:) )... they recently started incorporating ELicense, which is just another anti-piracy code. However, with ELicense, you can use your license on up to 3 different machines, but none simultaneously.
Because ZMUD is an internet application (glorified telnet mostly) theres no problem with connecting to verify the license #. However, there is an option, if you plan on upgrading, reformatting, whatever, to unlicense your product and relicense it later with the same #. I didn't see what mentioned in the Whistler article and that could be a possibly better addition...
But again, how feasible is this anti-piracy code with any application that doesn't require the internet, because then connectivity with the PC isn't guaranteed.
And what about single parents?
I'd be forcing my kids to make a sacrifice if I couldn't provide for them at all.
Enrolling one's children in day-care is not irresponsible or neglectful. This is not a black and white issue and yet, so many people are trying to make it that. It seems these days a middle-classed women being able to stay home with her school-aged children is a luxury. You don't think a woman wishes she could spend more time with her children? Not all of are rich. Hell, my mother had to go back to work when i was in about 5th grade to help support us. And both my parents had bachelors degrees. Contrary to popular belief, not all teachers make that much. Anywayz, back on topic... Some people need to realize that this world is diverse and you cannot make this so black and white.
That is *such* an insane generalization. Catering to the majority and ignoring the minority? There are plenty of women in the technology field. If there is a need in a company for daycare, it should be offered. As a female geek, I plan on having children with my future-husband. I would be much more inclined to work for a company who offered day-care. Having your children nearby in company daycare is very convenient, especially if there is any sort of problem like a child falling ill. And no worrying about driving to another day-care to pick up your kids after work etc. I can completely understand the employees wanting emplyer-provided internet access and discounted home PC's, but family is definitely more important than geeks toys and internet access.
homosexual? fred was a pimp. he let scooby, shaggy and velma do all the investigating work while he got it on with daphne in the back of the mystery machine!
anywayz, it was the 70's, and no child is going to get the references... what 6 year old would attribute shaggy's constant munchies to smoking pot?
isn't this a little off topic?:)
