I for one am waiting for the day I can run my "industrial sized" vacuum cleaner in my little Mitsubishi Lancer to get rid of those stubborn dust mites in the carpet.
Except for really intense use periods like festivals or during the evening the latency issue is not really a problem with a half way decent sound card and most of the cafes use good cards to attract customers. And about being annoyed, its something you get used to really quickly once you know how it works. Besides speaking slowly and getting momemnt inbetween allows you to think clearly before speaking .
The sad thing is that people who ticked the little box which said "Trust all programs from microsoft" when they first downloaded something from Microsoft.
Most people don't read and have never read a single security advisory from Microsoft . This is going to really bad for lots of innocent people. I wonder what has happened to their stock price.
I'm an Indian and dont consider myself a patriot.
Except when I see Hypocritical politicians trying to better the world - in this case through export oontrols.
I dont want to piss any one off here but there are a million Indian programmers/executives/VC contigent in the US and from what I hear the US just cant get enough cheap labour from India.
And at least in theory India is the largest democracy in the world.
So why put India in Tier 3 (old) along with obviously undemocratic nations like China / the Middle East etc.... Strange sense of discrimination. Use the people.. f... the country.
Human beings love stories/parables/poems of all kinds - witness the Bible/Zen tales/Pachatantra.
I think it will be a great idea. In fact stories are the kind of thing that outsiders could comprehend. You know the Windoze(I'm one) people for whom Unix/Linux is incomprehensible.
There could be two or may be more than 2 types of stories. General concept understanding stories/parables and even command based stories
(Like how you learned a command and its arguments).
Another interesting point is that stories are passed on. Especially good ones. Remember Asimov about how the Galactic empire collapsed when people destroyed all the robots/manuals and could'nt repair the tech. stuff. Maybe if they
had good stories about the tech. stuff they would
have never lost the knowledge.;-)
Regarding indexing of stories - Concept stories would be slightly difficult but the command line stories would be easy.
I recently read somewhere (I forget where) about a similar situation. For a sysadmin position a neat looking resume and a certification is not enough. You need to see the person attacking a typical office scenario.
The suggestion is to give the person a job say the CEO's printer is not working and she needs it to print out a doucment that has to go out in an hour or so.
While the candidate is trying to fix the printer give her a call on the phone and present another problem say the accounting department has been cut off from accessing the server and the whole department is not able to work.
See how the candidate responds under this kind of pressure and you can select a likely replacement.
Like as said earlier I read this either somewhere else on slashdot/kuro5hin and credit should go to the person who suggested this nice idea
