  1. Distribution of Circumvention Software on SDMI Cracked Too Soon · · Score: 1

[Slightly OT, but relevant to digital media none-the-less]

Ok, lets say that SDMI finally comes out with its standard in a year or more but no one publically cracks it. Soon after it's released, a young hacker suddenly "discovers" the way to circumvent the watermark. Why couldn't we start a fund to set up a high capacity server in Sri-Lanka (or wherever the US gov. or the RIAA can't influence the local gov. too much) to be the sole distribution point for the crack (or set up multiple ones in different countries for redundancy if the $'s available) ... Wouldn't this get around the DCMA because it only has jurisdiction in the US?

    Comments? Criticisms?

  2. Baby, Bye, Bye, Bye... on RIAA CEO Speaks · · Score: 1
The fact is, if Mr. Somerson had his way, artists would never again own their own music, and there wouldn't be any further incentive to make it.

I'm all for anything that will help discourage the BSB/Nsync/Christina/Britney/{insert your (least) favorite boy band/pop songstress here} from inundating the airwaves (and commercials, and tv, and everything else) with their pre-fab, soul-less songs. Because of this I fully support the 'digital theft' of these sellouts (hell, I'll even support the 'concrete theft' of their works). P.S. - If Britney wants to make some money once she quits the music bussiness, I'm sure they'll allways (until she gets wrinkley) be a place for her in p0rn.

  3. Go OS/2!!! on MSNBC Accused of Rigging OS Poll · · Score: 1

Forget running a script to vote for NT/2000; everyone knows it will do at least fairly well and ignore it even if it wins... Make OS/2 the winning os and the effect will be felt throughout the IT world. I can just see the Win32 developers quitting their jobs to make Win16 programs for the best os in the world!! (writing them natively in os/2 would be just dumb)
