I really hope not. There's a good chance that you're right, but loook at what happened with Senator Carnahan's campaign (some eery parallels here -- creepy Bush-buddy's opponent dies in a plane crash. hmm.) but at least Mel Carnahan was appointed to fill the seat.
What's ethical about making two people feel really bad? What's so wrong about deleting an offensive message when the sender didn't even want the recipient to see it? I see that as a favor. To say that someone's emotional health is less important than deleting a single email from their inbox is curious, to say the least.
So give me one good reason why I would choose to spend my hard-earned dollars on a resource that is (1) dated as soon as the PDF hits the mailbox and (2) replicated by on-line resources?
Depends on how you answer these questions:
How much is your time worth?
Might the Perl Journal save you $12 of time per year?
Might the Perl Journal teach you something in high-quailty (read, short and easily understandable) fasion that is worth $12 during that year. More importantly, might that lesson not only intersted you, but allow you to never need to ask that question.
Author of comment has no knowledge of Perl or Perl Journal, but believes in the value of high quality content.
I was looking into doing this for a while with a number of the formatted documents my school needs to deal with. It turned out that the DTD was much more complex than warranted for the kind of stuff we were doing, but of course YMMV.

Geez, that's terribly pedantic. I mean, technically "92.4% of/. editors failed elemtary spelling exams" isn't a statistic, but it does match common usage of the word.

What are you talking about? I'm using Mozilla 1.1 on Debian, and the linked article renders fine. Of course, the Times of India is one of the worst of the world's papers, so "fine" is a relative term...
Kerberos, among other options. You're describing a very common problem, for which dozens of solutions exist. It seems a waste of an Ask Slashdot question, IMHO.
what else is there in 3d modeling software besides UI? Renderers are not that crucial, with most/many people exporting to renderman for any serious output. Even animation is highly dependent on UI.

consider that not all files really need version control. It is a huge load on the system to use RCS for every single file...it only makes sense for files like academic papers, a movie you're working on, etc.
I think there's nothing wrong with competing desktop environments. You are right about trimming the fat and out of place apps (don't give them a place on the menu) and removing options that are nonsensical, but I see Gnome and KDE as two separate stories in the same theme, not one big story that needs to be tightened up.Within each desktop though, sure, cut the superflous bits of prose.
If someone finds out they've been flagged, they can contact a government agency set up for the specific purpose of providing that information. This would be a heavily regulated agency, with regulations in place that limit its power. For instance, getting information on anyone who isn't you would require a warrant.
The privacy act already has this provision. You can make an FOIA request to get any information held on you by the gov't, for the specific purpose of correcting errors, etc.
So when I ask "have you told your parents that you are gay?", then it seems that you can only answer yes or no, though both would imply that you are gay.
Yes, I gathered you were making a point about innuendo, but I don't see how it connected to my post. My post was not innuendo, but actually presented a fairly binary situation. Innuendo uses a trick of linguistics to make us assume a background. My examples was not a trick of language, but a carefully established situation. You have all the information needed to make a decision in the case. You either do or do not do. It's meant to be a corner case, not common, but it's certainly conceivable that those are the only two options.
Your second point is once again obscure. My example is a common example in philosophy of something that a Kantian absolutist would have trouble dealing with. It's not a problem of more flexible systems, although those can have their own problems. It sounds like we might basically agree, but your discussions are pretty confusingly presented.

Search engine queries should be sent using GET rather than POST. This lets people bookmark the search results, which is very important.

Yeah, but it would also suck.
But it is the only major FREE operating system.

I think you're completely wrong. The ADA does not apply to every company equally. It has to do with the number of employees.
I believe the ADA applies to companies with > 15 employees.
Australia also has mandatory voting.

I would suggest "Ask Slashdot" for that honor.
