This is only the case in certain companies.

You might as well summarize the article as "incompetent people don't know what they're doing"

    Slashdot's "No Shit Week" continues.

Stupid question - if you're not willing to put in what other people are, why should you be rewarded comparably?

You can't get away from that anywhere humans are involved, but Slashdot really does work better than most sites in that regard. I mean try expressing even a slightly conservative opinion on reddit.

    That is factually incorrect.

jar2exe doesn't work by compiling Java to native code, it starts a JVM and provides the ability to package .jar files into the executable. In principle, a Linux version would be fairly simple to make.

Also, a given JVM is only as locked down as the SecurityManager running inside of it (assuming no exploitable flaws) and you can be assured the trojan packager is not installing one that stops anything.

It seems to be a statistical truth. There are many, many more followers than there are leaders.

It's good to see that Mozilla is holding strong to their core values. DHS needs more people willing to question what they do. Blind compliance to government demands is anti-American and it saddens me to see so many people simply fall in line.

Well... yes and no. It can lead to patent violation claims. The "troll" designation is just an attempt to frame the debate (which clearly both sides are guilty of doing.)

I know I'm on the wrong site trying to evaluate this objectively, so I won't really go any further.

  15. Re:This is on Red Hat CEO On Patent Trolls: Just Pay Them Off · · Score: 3, Interesting

It's entirely possible that he, as the CEO, understands that his company is indeed in violation of these patents and sees this as a cheaper solution than trying to rewrite 200 years of law or fight a battle he knows he will lose.

I don't know for certain, of course. I'm no more privy to his thought process than you are.
