I guess there's something basically human about reliving the past, but I've never really been into it. Computing was super cool back in the day, but it's so much cooler now it's not even the same game anymore.
I have no stake in arguing that this particular patent is worthwhile of existence. I am more interested in the constant illogical attempts to "prove" that the existence of stupid patents mean that the entire system is broken.
So yeah, I had no intention of that. Never even implied that I did.
Or to be clearer, what the patent system seems to do (and this is based purely on observation, not my "feelings") is prevent people from profitting on the "innovation" of taking something someone else invented.
Not sure why we'd want to stop that. I guess everything should be free?
Any kind of proof that patents don't work? I'd say the constant flood of new shit is a good sign they do, but what do I know... I'm actually a businessman so clearly I'm evil at my core for making money.
Seriously, who do these people providing free services think they are? They should just keep providing the free services and shut up and be thankful they get to give to us.
But Comcast isn't even blocking anything, so you don't actually have any point at all, just a lot of spittle-flecked invective aimed at... I can't tell. Businesspeople in general?
Look at the collection and then try and convince me that our slow rate of progress is due to a lack of technology rather than a lack of imagination.
What the hell does that even mean? Slow rate of progress? Lack of imagination? I'm sure it was beautiful in his head but that thought didn't cross out into the real world all that intact.
Now I almost feel stupid having earned success with hard work. I didn't realize I was mindless and soulless but thanks for letting me in on it. Whatever would I do without a genius like you to teach me the way?

I buy it where I buy it, many different sources. I'm not sure how to answer the why beyond "I want it."
No. I like a lot of major label music, and I don't have any problem paying for it. It's not impulse, and I'm not a sheep.
The comments on these topics always suffer from Slashdot Oversimplification Syndrome.
Definitely a riot to read. Thanks guys! Keep up the... work.
Well hey, on the upside, they are also incompetent.
Seriously, who do these people providing free services think they are? They should just keep providing the free services and shut up and be thankful they get to give to us.
Ahh so innocent until proven guilty only counts for people you like... got it.

No, the post you responded to didn't even come close to saying anything like that.
Your entire argument seemed to center around the idea that Google should enable its own competition. How does that matter in any discussion ever?
I'm not saying releasing the photos is necessarily a positive, but your pussified capitulation disgusts me on a fundamental level.
Wait you're English and you accused the US of imperialism? That's almost cute.
It seems the prevailing Slashdot philosophy on criminal behavior is "innocent unless you're rich."
There are more than enough resources to go around. It simply isn't economical to go after most of them right now, but it will become so.
Ahh, so the fact that something works extremely well isn't good enough if it's old, we need progress for the sake of progress.
No wonder I couldn't derive sense from it, it was senseless.
Geeks think being a geek is better.
Slashdot's "No Shit Week" continues.
Everyone in the US would be a lot better off if they were more like me
You just summed up 90% of the posts I've ever read on Slashdot. It's the unsung geniuses like you that make me proud to be an American.
Gave? That's an interesting word choice there.

You (and the people who modded you up) do know they still make phones with buttons, right? You don't have to miss them at all.
That's just stupidly wrong. It's like... if you're not a teenager or trolling, I feel really bad for you.
Clearly you're a usability genius. The developer instinct is totally the way to go!
That also works for performance.
