They're gonna be taking a loss at the announced price, and I suspect they'll end up with a quick 3DS-like cut and hurt themselves even more.
Here's hoping it works out for them, though. I'd hate to see interesting long-form handheld games disappear in the vortex that is Apple's destruction of that particular market.
But I heard the government is smart and should be trusted to run everything for me. Clearly no government would ever be involved in something like this.
Welcome to Slashdot. The population used to be pretty good at understanding how these sorts of things worked, but the new style seems to be "shit on everything in a manner that clearly demonstrates to anyone who actually knows something about what I'm shitting on that I actually know nothing."
And let us not forget that the word "evil" actually has no applicability to this situation in any way, shape, or form, but nerds love watering that word down to make their opinions seem more important.
By "anything" I mean anything a developer can convince a computer to do. You're welcome to not believe it, but your beliefs have no influence on reality, and your personal situation is far from universal no matter what that situation is.
Apple tells consumers what they want, and consumers buy it.
I have to wonder, do you actually believe something like that? Is your opinion of yourself so high that you believe only people who think like you are "real" in some sense?
Programming for iOS isn't especially difficult, and the Enterprise developer license doesn't involve an Apple review of the app because there is no App Store involvement, so there are essentially no restrictions. It's basically like programming a PC, because it's just a computer.
Do simple facts count as a rational rebuttal, or shall I call you a hater as well?
What do you mean? Gamers have acted entitled for years. They whine and cry when they don't get every last thing they want in the way they want it, and for free to boot, and that's been the case since the 90s. The only way it could get worse is if they decided they deserve to be paid to deign to play the games.
Microsoft already demonstrated with the XBox that they will stay in the game as long as it takes to get things right. People here complain about short-term corporate thinkers - well Microsoft has never done that. They've played for the long-term since day one, and they'll tweak until they get it right because they understand the stakes.
Oh, I know, I know, Slashdot wisdom says Microsoft is dying... but Slashdot wisdom ain't exactly wise, you know?
Aww and now the money-hating populists with mod points have buried me in their rash haste to silence opposition that proves they are far from objectively correct.
That point notwithstanding, the modern Sandy Bridge CPUs vastly outpace the Core processors.
Basically, no, there is no 4 year old laptop beating down a modern MacBook Pro. There are barely any modern laptops that can beat them, and the ones that do tend to cost as much or more. That's without considering the things Apple brings to the table that aren't replicated by anyone.

*golf clap*
You're so awesome, and your points really make a difference in the real world.

You're pretty clearly not experienced with much if you think virtualization is only for datacenters to squeeze more money out of customers.
Actually, I do. I get paid to do so and have for several decades.
I can tell from your calm method of stating your case that you are a professional with a detailed understanding of the issues at hand

Actually I'm naturally pubeless but thanks for discriminating against me.
Well that $399 isn't the cost of the hardware, so that's not really a rebuttal. You're welcome, though.

For 399 dollars, or in other words a pittance in financial terms, iPads can do ANYTHING the enterprise devs can dream up.
Not to throw the cold water of reason on the fires of Android fandom.
That's why I stick to throat sex. No valid objections.
I read the article but somehow missed the point. Is this some sort of preemptive strike against a supposed iPad takeover of corporate IT?

You poor idealists must hate the real world.
Awww, that's such a cute way to oversimplify things to suit your own far-from-universal morals.
Not everyone who disagrees with you is being paid by some corporation to do so.
I explicitly allow ads on Slashdot, and other sites I enjoy, since keeping them around is beneficial to my entertainment.
You should be thanking me for subsidizing you, but I know entitled assholes like you would never see it that way.
Which non-technical end users are developing add-ons? I guess the same ones that modded you up...
The best anti-patent rant you can come up with here is a hypothetical you aren't even sure would infringe? Slashdot really is going downhill.
