I know many of us can't help ourselves but to try and come up with some sort of solution to every perceived injustice or error, but I can think of few things more dangerous to the exchange of ideas than some blessed organization being given the perceived coronation as keepers of the truth.
Truth will always be fact, not opinion. As scientific as we try to be, we still cannot separate our opinions from the truth we see. The sad state of journalism from Fox News to the New York Times shows that both sides of the political spectrum taint their reporting of "facts" with their own story-telling skills.
If you want a single source of truth, look into your own mind. It is your right and responsibility as an individual to figure it out for yourself. While the creation of some "ministry of truth" would probably pass by the SCOTUS, the founding fathers would spin in their graves as this does fly in the face of the meaning of the right for people to have their own opinions and speak them out - because it means they think for themselves.
It is foolish that we would even consider going back to a stage where we give our ruling class that kind of credibility.
This is a great idea, please, listen to the silly man at EFF so that I can haz free wifi. Four Loko is expensive and I need a new feed for my porn machine. Thank you.
I took Skoudis' SANS course last August in Denver, and the refresher course in Orlando just a couple of weeks ago.
Skoudis is a great instructor, and repeatedly used the metaphore of the Castle, the Walls, the Moat, the Villagers, and the Barbarians to describe the depth of an attack down to the kernel.
I asked outright about email viruses, when the barbarians arrive at the gate, hand their swords to the villagers, and then the villagers promptly stab themselves.
Oh yeah, and I bought the book while at the conference and had Skoudis sign it. Now that he's been Slashdotted, it feels like something special;)
We were joking, but while the barrage of UDP traffic taxed our front-end, we figured it might a great time to take systems down for maintenance - WTF, we were up, nobody could hit our site, no explanation to management!
Can you spell VPN? If you're going to use the public network, you're going to have to find a private way to do it.
This is database software, even if it's public data the authenticity and integrity of the data must be verified. Databases should never sit directly on the Internet, period. A front-end of some sort must be used.
If you want an open front end, use port 80/443 with XML if necessary. Right their you've limited your at-risk software to your web server and the client's browser. If you want to run every piece of software under the sun, you're going to get every worm under the sun.
For back-end type operations, including remote administration, you've got to tunnel. You do add another front-facing service with your VPN, but an IPSec or AES tunnel is going to be much harder to break simply because the worm would have to break the key exchanges first.
I would suspect the military would be a step ahead with the GPS technology. It seems easy enough to change frequencies right before weapons are deployed.
Would that, in turn, mean that a JDAM would a GPS-Jammer-Jammer?
Guys, I think there is something to this. I saw a webcam fixed on Admiral Poindexter's house.
Several Alcoa trucks have shown up today and begun wrapping the entire building in aluminum.
He must know something, he's like Total Information Awareness, man!
Sorry, I gotta go before Kroger closes.
Robert Byrd is not excluded from his (past) racist beliefs simply because he was never Senate Majority leader. That's the stupidest reasoning I've ever heard.
Both parties - and in particular generations prior to the baby boomers - have a legacy of racism at some point.
What changed the perception is the illusion that civil rights and the Great Society were somehow related. The perception - pushed by the Johnson Democrats - that support of Welfare was support for African Americans. Disapproval of welfare is against African-Americans? The Democratic party is such a disgrace that they really believe this, and somehow have managed to successfully sell it.
I find this to be incredibly insulting to African Americans, because it continues to push a status quo of "poor African Americans", when we know damned good and well that African-Americans CAN succeed in America.
Why do the Democrats fear School Choice? It just might fix the problem of piss-poor inner-city schools that have failed for almost 40 years no matter how much funding is thrown at it. IT'S STILL BROKE, IT STILL SUCKS, AND THE DEMOCRATS CAN'T FIX IT. THEY ARE TOTAL FAILURES.
Why do the Democrats fear Faith-based initiatives? Because it is a private method to assist the poor, and unmasks the lies of the 2-year election cycle that somehow African-Americans must come to the polls for the Democrats, so that THEY can throw them a bone to keep them happy for another 2 years. Successful African-Americans are the worst nightmare for the Democratic Party.
Why do the Democrats push Affirmative Action? Because once it is proved that African-Americans can and will achieve success in a an open, unregulated, free-market society, what the Hell do we need Democrats for anymore?
Racism is Harry Belefonte, who believes that you're not black if you don't think a certain way; if you have an opinion outside that of the herd you must be an Uncle Tom. THAT is racism.
Trent Lott? He's just an idiot for not choosing his words as carefully as a statesman should. But he never wore a sheet, like the Senator from West Virginia. He wasn't up there with Al Gore's Dad, a man known to be fond of the "N" word, trying to block the civil rights bill.
FACT: More Republicans in #s and percentages voted FOR the Civil Rights bill than did Democrats.
FACT: Affirmative Action was signed into law by - RICHARD NIXON.
The future of the GOP lies in GenX. I'm too young to be a racist, I just plain know better. I've had black friends and I've differed in opinion with them the same as my white friends. Never did we think such a disagreement was due to underlying racist feelings. THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CAN HOPE FOR, HOWEVER.
This racism BULLSHIT is just that - BULLSHIT. The Democrats need this, they are getting their asses whipped in the polls, they have no message, they lack positive solutions for America, and can't figure out who they are even among themselves (Nancy Peloci, or Joe Lieberman?).
This post is way off topic, I know, but I am SICK AND FUCKING TIRED OF BEING CALLED A RACIST SIMPLY BECAUSE I THINK I PAY TOO GODDAMNED MUCH IN TAXES, SUPPORT A STRONG MILITARY, AND PUT MY FAITH IN THE FREE MARKET BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT.
Any Liberal out there who wants to take me on with issues, fine. Disagreement is good. Stop pulling this damned race bullshit before it blows up in your face, like Hillary's comments about "Goddamned Jews".
Al Gore is still - even now - a patronizing fruitcake who takes credit for a lot of things he had little to do with (i.e., the economy, the cold war, etc.).
Go take your tax cut and buy yourself a nice tree to huh, ok?
I think the whole Duke Nukem Whenever project is actually a front, and George Broussard and company are developing code for Carnivore, Magic Lantern, and other applications that have kept Janet Reno and John Ashcroft happy over the last four years. With the Patriot act and Homeland security, they are way to busy to make any games.
I wish I had a job where I never had to show results, and only had to produce 10 year-old code to make people happy.
Indy is a GREAT town. Unfortunately, we have elected an idiot as mayor who feels it is the responsibility of gov't to manage the lives of its people. Remember - the MPAA assigns that "R" rating on the movie, and the cinemas enforce the age restriction. This is NOT a law. But Mayor Petersen wants take my place as Dad. I play these games (well over age 21...), and I have a young daughter who will play these video games. And I'll raise my daughter, not Mayor Petersen. Who determines what is a "violent" or "sexual offensive" game? Surely not the same idiots who foul up public services? Petersen is coming to office after a string of outstanding Mayors. One is now a senior Senator, the other a philanthropist, another a genious who re-invented how government should operate and created a town that is a model for municiple success. Our town is BOOMING, BEAUTIFUL, and kicking butt in the NBA and the NFL (GO COLTS!!) Petersen has nothing to do except enact what would have appeared to have been low-priority gov't meddling in the lives of the people. It might not be unconstitutional, but it ain't right. I would like to see an additional amendment to the constitution that says the gov't can tell me how to raise my children or run my life. What kind of a world do we live in the encourages homosexuality all over the media but at the same time places restrictions on recreation because it doesn't fit the morals of a bunch of lawyers????? That was NOT meant as a gay bash... To the entire gov't - get out of my house, get out of my computer, get away from my guns, get away from my daughter, and get out of my life. And fix the damned roads, you idiots. This is the best my tax dollars can get me?

"Our site was down"
"It was the worm, sir."
"I like the new layout. Did the worm do that?"
"Uh... yes?"
