IIRC, Katz said at the beginning of the Hellmouth series that they made an attempt to gain permission from all the comments' owners that they could get in touch with, and specifically said that one problem with this is that many people use fake e-mails on slashdot, or posted anonymously. Hence why they asked that if you saw your comment in the article, you should let them know if you don't like them using it.

  2. Re:Use of drug dogs in school parking lots? on Supreme Court Limits High-Tech Snooping · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, different laws apply to schools. Especially considering that you lose most of your rights when you enter one (privacy being a big one).

This law applies to the police spying on private homes, places where you (or your parents) have actually purchased or in some way are entitled to that property (and hence supposedly some semblence of privacy).

It would be nice if something similar to this could get passed that would apply to schools, but with the so-called "war on drugs," don't get your hopes up.

  3. Re:Just a note on Sheet Music to Napster: Music Distribution Tech · · Score: 1

Well, actually I'd have to say that *I* was only partially correct, as it was myself pointing it out, not my English teacher.

But still, in this case, I don't think he should have used the term 'Bibliography.' The reason, as by your definition:

This paper is not on a particular author, printer or country. Instead, it is on a particular theme (history of the distribution of music). Therefore, by the definition, by using the term Bibliography, he should have given a list of books that deals with his theme (again, history of the distribution of music). What he listed was hardly a definitive list.

I think that's more along the lines of how I meant to say it in my first post. Thanks for clarifying, though! :)

  4. Just a note on Sheet Music to Napster: Music Distribution Tech · · Score: 1

Offtopic, but I'd just like to point something out that my English teacher has always grilled me on.

What you have at the end is *not* a Bibliography, but a Works Cited page.

A Bibliography is an exhaustive list of *every* work that has something to do with your paper. For this paper, that would mean your Bibliography would run on for *pages*. You would have to list every single source that not only you used, but were used in the books you used, as well as any sources even relevant to music distribution.
A Works Cited page is what you have here - a simple list of the works of other authors that you have cited.

Just thought I should correct you on that, and let you know that in the English classes I took, you just failed! ;)

Ahhh, thanks for the info. As I stated, I only have up to about 16, though I hadn't heard of the "Great Tokyo Empire," so quite possibly only up to 15 or so. Also, again, since I hadn't read all the way though the graphic novels, I wasn't aware that the movie ended like the graphic novels... Looks like I'll need to set aside a couple bucks and pick up the rest of the GN's! ;)

    Thanks again!

  7. As a proud owner... on Akira on DVD? It Might Happen · · Score: 2

As a proud owner to numerous of the graphic novels of Akira, let me say that the yes, the age old wisdom of "the book(s)" are better than the movie holds true. Just so you are aware:

    1) The movie (quite incredibly) follows the graphic novels shot for shot, color for color. The same man that produced the graphic novels directed the movie.

    2) The movie deviates from the graphic novels about the time Tetsuo is taken away by the government.

    3) The graphic novels went on for quite awhile (unfortunately, I only have up to 16 or so, the last issue I heard of was 35?), a number of the graphic novels came out *after* the movie. Hence, when they made the movie, they had to come up with *some* sort of ending. A poor choice on their part - they should stuck purely with the graphic novel, ended the movie at like issue #12, and then made a second movie.

    4) The movie has Akira as being pure energy (frozen in those containers). In the graphic novels, he is still a kid frozen away (*much* more awesome). When Tetsuo awakens Akira in the GN's, Akira is blind, and uses a small portion of his power to "see" around him, and also listens to Tetsuo to figure out where to go. When the government activates the "SOL" laser, it catches them by surprise. Yes, Tetsuo loses his arm, but he uses his power to regenerate it - it doesn't turn into a mechanical arm. Also, there is another major explosion in the GN's (similar to how there is one at the end of the movie), however, the cause if it is when Akira finally opens his eyes. When he did that, he lost control of his power for a minute, and *woosh*.

I'd tell more, but really, you should just go find copies of the GN's and read them for yourself.

Also, just so you know, I hold Akira as being among my favorite animes (along with ones like Vampire Hunter D), because of how much *detail* they paid attention to, both in the mechanical realm of the world and with the characters, as well as the story line (though again, they shouldn't have deviated!!!)

Alright, it's too early to rant this much, so 'nuff said.

It's available in Europe, and was released here in the US a few years ago. I haven't started using it yet, but I will soon. It contains some powerful anti-oxidants (the same stuff that allows our bodies to fight things like premature aging, wrinkles, hardening of artieries, stiffening of joints, formation of cataracts, and cancer, just to name a few).

I don't know if you can pick it up just anywhere, and I'm not too sure what the price is (I'll be finding out shortly, should know by tomorrow). Any interested feel free to drop me an e-mail, I'll hopefully have more specifics soon...

They create this framework from the work of crackers, competing to win *up to* (note what the article says!) $10,000, with no mention of any second or third prize winners (or, perhaps, $10,000 gets split up amongst the top competitors?)
*Should* the upcoming laws in the EU allow software to be patented, they, of course, are going to patent it every way possible.
I say (kudos to Beastie Boys!)...
    Crack it like this
    Crack it like that
Crack it with a whiffle-ball bat!
Leave that sucka bruised, battered, bleeding, and feeling like a sex-crime victim! But, of course, don't disclose any information to them. Crack it so badly that before they even *release* their framework, the hackers have already put together (based on the info given to 'em by the crackers) bios flashes, software, the whole nine-yards (read: prior art) that allow the enabling-disabling of the SDMI encryption system.

Of course, then again, I may just be talking out of my ass. Probably the later.

  15. Internal Hard Drive on Salon on the XBox · · Score: 1

I didn't see anybody truly comment on this below, so I figured I'd raise my voice.

One of the major reasons I love my PSX is the fact that it has mem-cards. I take 'em out, wrap in a spare anti-static bag, and poof-they're protected.

I believe a majority of console owners will know, electronics get dusty. What's to happen to the hard drive should it receive a nice static ?! I remember one of my friends got extremely pissed when one PSX mem card got fried and he lost 48 hours on a game! That was just a dinky little mem card with 3 or so game saves on it... Imagine if it had been the console's hard drive instead, with all of his PSX game data...
