There is approximately one supernova per galaxy per
300 years. We are overdue. The statement of 'the next expected supernova' being a half million light years away is absolutely ludicrous, and shows a severe lack of knowledge of anything astronomical!

Take for instance, the star Betelgeuse. Only about
600 light years away, and an excellent candidate to go supernova sometime (anytime) in the next 100,000 years.
Dump has the concept of levels. A level 1 dump would be only the changes to a filesystem since its last level 0 dump, and so on.
