It depends on what you run. I have an E4500 hooked up to 6.4TB (usable) EMC that gets data ushed to it via SSH at 60MB/sec for 14 hours out of the day. On top of that, it's a NetBackup media server, putting ~10TB/week to tape from that array. it's a 10 x 400mHz, 5G machine, and never breaks 20 for load.
My old manager used to be able to rattle off bugs fixed bu SUN kernel patches 6 months prior, but micromanaged. My new manager is not technical, and has no illusions about this. He works as a bullshit filter, and to remove obstacles from my way, so that I can get my Real Work(tm) done. He is interested in what I am doing, and comes to technical presentations by vendors and architecture meetings (I work operations, not engineering), but does not interfere, and generally asks very good questions. In general, he is the best manager I have had yet, just because of those points.
While I realize this doesn't work for everyone, it does definitely work for me.
I have lived and worked in two markets where the only sane way to get to work was public transit. I demand paper manuals from all my vendors and read them on the train ride to and from work. I would be distressed if a vendor I worked with said that I would have to print out the manuals myself in order to read them. With my job putting me on-call so often, I don't have the time to read manuals anywhere else.
Actually, when I used to work for GeoCities (maybe you've heard of them, 5g of content total, etc, etc) I had to do a lot of updating to the site, often on a moment's notice. I used two tools: Allaire's HomeSite, and notepad. Homesite I used very infrequently. I did image maps and tables with no issues -- I generated the image maps with a free program, and dropped the code into the page. With tables, I guess you just need to be able to count in your head or not be ashamed to use your fingers and toes, but it worked out fine for me.

Like published all of Consolidated's catalog, except the last two...
But we all know all the good stuff is in Finland, anyway.
