I have an account that I support that has completely saturated 4 4G ISL's in-between 2 Brocade 48k's, and had to re-balance their fibre. Granted, and individual HBA doesn't hit a sustained 2G/sec, but 16G/sec saturated to a pair of HDS Thunders is impressive.
Mostly, I think this technology will compete against iSCSI, not dedicated fibre, with all the drawbacks -- plus an added drawback of currently being single-platform.
Just because the device doesn't suddenly become hi-def doesn't mean some people don't already have hi-def content regardless. Some of us record a lot of HD content on our VMC boxen, and don't have an extra tuner to re-record in SD at the same time, the night before a business trip.
I've spent a couple of months looking into portable media players for week-long business trips (to boring midwest destinations), and they all fall short due to some content not being able to be sync'ed, and lack of native support -- I can't transcode last night's TV in time for my (normally) 07:00 flights the next morning. Native DVR-MS support removes that obstacle, but lack of support for OTA ATSC recordings means I would leave half my TV at home, which means I buy books at the airport, instead.
Not DRM, but the multimedia class scheduler service -- which needs so much headroom because of the DRM routines, and (on assumes) the amount of computation expense of constantly checking the 'tilt bits'.
I had never heard of Simon Cowell before 'idol', nor had my father, and he's a gold-and-platinum-record-holding sound engineer and record producer *from England also*.
Just because you *might* have doesn't mean the industry has...
Yes, but in this case, you do -- right to shop there, as a members-only establishment (or to get 5% discount, as above poster mentioned, depending on store), vs. adherance to rules == 'meeting of the minds'.
Again, IANAL, but this one seems pretty clear to my un-lettered ass.:)
The difference at a wholesale club is you sign a contract to shop there, that says you will submit.
While it may or may not be legally binding (IANAL), the 'social contract' you enter by signing up obligates you to follow the rules, and anything else is petulant -- no one forced you to sign up and shop there...
Do you wake up and immediately check your company's web site every morning for news of a takeover or merger? Or do you assume there will be an internal, all-hands type of meeting to tel you *before* your friends find out?
If your answer is the first one, you either haven't worked yet, or need to go find a better job, fast.
Two of us have one at work. As we do wireless infrastructure, we also have access to pretty much every wireless doo-dad around. This is by far our favorite, though some people prefer the phone-shaped instruments. Basic statement is: of you don't need to play video games on your PDA, hate the pen writing interface, or have had to carry a timeport for years, so are familiar with the interface, this is the device for you. If these are not true, it may or may not be the device for you. Carrying one of these instead of pager/cell/palm is very sexy, though.
FTW!
If you wrap it in bacon first, *anything* goes down smoothly.

*shrug* prolly better for me, anyway.
Worse than that, OTA broadcast HD cannot be synced even though it was recorded.

The Vista Media Center experience is a *lot* better, but it's still the only part of Vista which got better. :)
For those of us with MCE's as our Tivo, and some specific problems with MCE2005, it's a good upgrade.
I have a friend who's a furry, and she says that they actually have 'bowling paws' for just that purpose. :(
We have Insight for the same reasons, but it' $45/mo (after taxes) for 10.0mbit (in Louisville, KY).
Competition, weak as it is here, is a good thing.

WHICH MAY BE TRUE, BUT THAT'S NOT THE TANGENT WE WERE ON AT THE TIME.
Wow, my argument is merely diminished, not strengthened by all that caps-work...

I never said it was rational, just predictable....
Since I'm only ~1/3 through Hitchens' book, I haven't gotten to the 'good stuff' about Islam yet, so I can't speak to that.
See, this is why we're in a quagmire all through the Middle East:
Both outcomes, sadly, were 100% predictable to anyone who had some actual knowledge of the region.
Unfortunately, that means most people 'over here' are still shocked and amazed when backlash is that strong.
Actually, you can buy it today, and a lot of us have been running the beta for a while -- but don't let reality slow you down. :)
Solaris can do it: prioctl
Just as single-mode and multi-mode are used today, and using the same principles:

Unfortunately, they are to some people....
:(
I read this, and IM'ed one of my friends who works for Postini, and they found out about the deal from me.
According to Keith Olbermann this week, New York hosts 48mm tourists/year.
I would call that significant, by any measure.
Um, EMC owns VMWare...
Do you really think Microsoft will try a hostile takeover of EMC just to stop people from trading VMWare images?
How about XBox live's 'rep' system? Lower bandwidth for modded-down players, anyone?
this? Veritas provides a CLI to all their other products, I'd be terribly surprised if this was an exception.
