Laugh if you like, but they link an article that touts as the industry leader in design. Because Microsoft Surface is more innovative than Apple I-pad. Can't really argue with that, it's kind of pathetic really. But "the industry leader"? Ahem, no. Just not as lame as Apple, which is damning with faint praise.
The fine itself is inconsequential. What is not inconsequential is the mechanism for fining, and as the article pointed out, the next one could well be based on global revenue. When based on a percentage of global revenue as is often the result with EU cases, it can go way higher than the 17 million pounds mentioned. There is a history of fines in EUR multi billions. Not a great idea to be flip about this one.
Another thing that is far from inconsequential is the public rebuke.
This phone is priced as a high midrange, nowhere close to Pixel or I-phone. But it's a flagship, no question. Same Screen resolution as Pixel 3, a little less than the XL. Looks like the value is there.
For me, rom unlock is a huge plus, lack of headphone jack is a huge negative.
What would the Chinese government possibly do with my data?
The possibilities are endless. Let me name just one: install malware on your phone that actively scans for vulnerable devices on your home network, ending up with malware on all those too, and owning all your passwords including your bank.
Who is spying on you? Check one: China. Google. Apple. Facebook. All of the above. More than the above.
This is where an active community of enthusiasts checking the network traffic for telemetry is absolutely essential, which we certainly have got on Android. Personally, I think the risk of getting caught actively spying and the ensuing erosion of customer base is enough to keep Xiaomi in line, at least in line with the usual privacy thugs above. I'd be more worried about apps like Wechat, or Facebook, or Linkedin. These are all just blatantly evil without a hint of shame.
What model? My Moto g6 came with 8.0.0, I just checked and there is an update, downloading now. Only a few months out to be sure, but updates are definitely being provided. For how long remains to be determined. Happy camper so far and I love the phone. Way better value than the Pixel, as I meant to say above.
Failed because of incompetent engineering. That's the part about Apple employees not believing that the laws of physics not applying to Apple. What really floors me is how this project is still a fail, after how long? In a normal company this would have just been addressed, perhaps by adopting more realistic specs, or perhaps just by being better at engineering.
Sure would be nice to hear from somebody who has worked with both, whether Postgres really can fill the Oracle boots. I only know about the Oracle apps, somehow popular in enterprise but universally hated. Absolute rubbish. So why am I supposed to believe that Oracle's other products are magically better?
Ellison made it personal like an idiot. Now Amazon doesn't care about the expense any more. And obviously, if Amazon can use AWS instead of Oracle then other companies can too, so Amazon thanks Larry for providing that extra motivation to just do it.
Larry Ellison taunts Amazon that they still use Oracle and can't do without them, thus ensuring that Amazon will stop at nothing to be rid of Oracle and him.

Your post is a false dichotomy: the headline may be both a genuine question and clickbait.
See you're just the kind of self righteous jihadi that rots the barrel.
Look, it's Apple who can't manage to design and build a functional wireless charger, don't blame me.

Really rough analogy: cerebellum is the CPU, cerebrum is the GPU. Other stuff is networking.
I wonder if Xiaomi is going to start designing its own SoCs like Huawei.
some people buy these Premium phones thinking they will look like they are Mr. Successful
They look like they're carrying their lunch in their pocket, frankly. I can see this working with a purse.

Go for the one with a headphone jack. Looks like, not this one. Otherwise, its a lot of phone for a decent price.

BTW, went Motorola. Happy. Much better value than Pixel.
Why does it matter whether Apple's failed wireless charger is shipped or not? Either way it's a fail.

Or your post was completely off topic, and modded as such.
Oh the Apple police are here. And wrong.
You are right, I don't like Apple, with good reason, and every interaction with an Apple employee ends up with me liking Apple less.
Google updated my Nexus 4 for two years then said fuck you. I said, never again Google hardware.
Sure, many vendors are even worse, but this is supposed to be Google demonstrating how to do it right. Very much unimpressed.
What I get from the article is "laws of physics don't apply to Apple".
I want to know why Google and everybody else can make a wireless charger that doesn't overheat except Apple.
When Apple employees mod down critical comments it makes me think Scientology Apple. And detest Apple more. What a corrupt gang of extremists.
Mmmm, how I love the smell of burning insulation in the morning.
