  1. How Do You Help Testing? on Debian Lays Out Freeze Plans For Woody · · Score: 1

    Hello.

How would be the best way to help out the testing
    of the boot-floppies.

  2. Security and Online Banking on On Paying Bills Online · · Score: 1

I live in Canada and have used Royal Banks Royal Direct internet service for two years now and have had zero internet banking related glitches.

I do question its security though. It uses 128-bit encryption so it is reasonably safe with regards to sniffing. However you login with your client card number and a password. Your client card number appears on your bank statement, client card, ATM, and interact reciepts. It is not unthinkable that someone would use an easily guessable password for internet or phone banking.

As I understand it direct payment is not nearly as popular in the US than in Canada. There are millions of those little interact reciepts hanging around, not to mention that every store keeps a copy.

I do find that Internet banking is extremely usefull. I use it to pay all of my bills except for rent, which is down the hall. The banks like it too. I dont remember the source but it costs the bank about $1.00 for each live teller transaction compares to $0.02 for each internet transaction.

  3. It wasn't so bad.... almost. on Review: "Mission To Mars" · · Score: 1

I am not the most familiar with Newtons laws of motion and whatnot so I didnt have a problem with the majority of the movie. I was a bit confused about the mars tent but I got over that fairly quickly.

The computers where they have no computers: I can ignore it. I guess they did not run linux and could not be configured for navigation. I got over that.

My biggest problem was how the movie changed from an space action movie about rescuing someone from mars to a "sci-fi" movie about our origins of a species. I would have been content with the movie had the projector broken immediatly after they entered the face.

In short: The majority of the movie was good but the end was as lame as possible.

Lowest Point: A crying smiling alien.

Highest Point: The preview for Mission Impossible!

  4. Roundup Ready Canola on Monsanto Agrees Not to Sell "Terminator" Seeds · · Score: 1

I am assuming many of you are not farmers because if you were you would know that this kind of thing happens all the time. Well sortof.

If you were a farmer and wanted to buy Roundup Ready Canola(which is a variety of canola that is resistent to to the herbicide Roundup) stamped on the bag would be the words something like "Purchase of these seeds do not give you the right to plant them. You must purchase a license from Company X prior to use of these seeds."

Much of the crops my dad seeds have replanting restrictions placed on them so you cannot plant what you harvest.

Making seeds that are sterile doesn't change anything it just enforces the license restrictions that are already there.

  5. Is it just me, or is Tux kind of stupid? on Quickie Fu · · Score: 1

I always thought that Tux was a little fat. Maybey it would be good if Tux went to the weight room in his 3D adventure.

Otherwise Link and Mario are going to kick his ass all over the place.
