Ug, how can anybody consider voting for George Weeny Bush?
What I was wondering is the part about the people not voting for the president. Who does and doesn't this somewhat contradict with those American democratic ideas you all go on about?

I wonder just what chance DeCSS would have against this. Infact I wonder what chance a useful tool liek john would have against this.
Wrote to MEP Neil MacCormack (Scottish National Party, Scotland) saying what a bad idea software patents are and he replied...
Thank you very much. I totally agree with you, and will be vigilant.
So far, under questioning in Committee, Commissioner Bolkestein has held
that the only extent to which software should be patentable is where it is
embedded in a process or procedure, or piece of equipment, that would
itselfbe patentable under existing patent law.
Can you advise on that? Is even this oibjectionable on the same (correct)
grounds as those on which you object to software patents m,ore generally?
Which I didn't expect at all. Can anyone suggest what I should say in reply?
When this was last mentioned slashdot they claimed it was an English bill (I forgive them, they're Canadians). Otherwise it seems to be treated as a UK bill by the media but section 2 does not apply to Scotland (same state different legal system see) and the Scottish Parliament is passing their own Regulation of Ivestigatory powers bill. Not being a lawyer I don't know the difference between our section 2 and that for Wales, N Ireland and England, but I remember it differs in who can and cannae give allowance to spy on you (it won't allow Home Secreatary Jack Straw's gate keeper to let polis read your e-mails which the Westminster one could). Anyone know more of the differences and what happens when Jack Straw's bill is passed but Jim Wallace's isn't for a few months more? Jonathan Riddell

America politics confuses me
I use SuSE and have never had any problems with the stability of netscape. It runs happily with smile and they're a very nice online ethical bank.
The Royal Bank that I used added proprietry plug-ins to internet explorer, no good at all under linux.
Boo Royal Bank.
Or maybe you didn't mean the Royal Bank of Scotland?

Could someone explain to a humble Scot who these Time Warner people are anyway. Don't they make an American current affairs magazine? Jonathan Riddell
