I dont get it! W(hy)TF! should nevada have the exclusive license for online gambling?
Screw that. I think people should open up shop out of country - and continue to break the "law" on this one.
I dont see why the people of the US continually let.gov stomp on all things sensible. Why are we debating overthe 500K entrance fee. we should disagree with this entirely - but by not seeing/acknowledging the fact that.gov is taking one step closer to cutting our freedoms off at the neck, by regulating/licensing/owning the rights to peoples inherent need for escapism/addiction/thrill (entertainment/cigs/drink/drugs/etc..).
we are not getting anywhere - we just look at this as "oh well - looks like nevada is closer to holding the monopoly on gambling"
that is a big deal. what if you start an online gambling.cash site outside US borders. you can be punished for having US citizens use your site - or it is blocked, or you have to pay NEVADA 500k.
--nearly 250 gigabytes...rejected.... warrant should have been obtained before the data was downloaded.... defendant's co-conspirators would destroy the evidence or make it unavailable."
uhmmm, 250GB is a LOT 'O DATA (R) and d-loading it woulda taken a looong time.... so I dont agree with that argument.
also - how would they have destroyed the evidence had they not already dl'd it... sounds like a load of crap to me.
"When we go to Bosnia, we bring in a Humvee with a 50-caliber machine gun"
The article states that they like to "blend into the environment"
well I dunno bout you - but last time I was running down a 3rd world street - the hummers with 50-cal guns sure got my attention.
and now they think that a nice "chineey" new SUV with a laser gun is gunna blend in?
well I may be just a "normal" 'merican citizen - but when you state that it resembles the "presidential wheels" that are occasionally used - and I am a bosnian terrorist, I sure as hell will take note.
god point - I cant find the story now - maybe because I am not qualified as a google search agent or maybe becaues I am too drunk) but there was a story run recently on/. that talked about the underground tunnel run from the russian embasy in DC to some.goc complex.
the problem is that.gov can have compounds anywhere they want - but us lowly militia's cant have jack. screw that! whatever happened t ofreedom of assembly!?
There was also the time in early UO when LB came to do an announcement in Britain.
at the time - there was a bug in the fireball spell that it would kill any player in one shot.
there was one guy - who in front of everyone - shot LB with fireball and KILLED hime:)
It was great. but just to show how absolutely lame they were - they banned the guy who did it and cancelled his account. and said he could never play UO again.
that was lame - that guy had guts and if LB was just any other player in the game - then he should have to play by the rules as well. it was a great assisination.
I was a big PK in the very early days of UO - and although there were many PKs out there that would gang up on players - there were also the ones who would not.
My "guild" consisted of 3 PKs. Phlux - MYM - Draygor.
We took on many battles where there were many against us - and yes we won the majority of them. NOT because we were fighting "noobs" as you call them - we would selectively pick on the top players, great lords, GM etc. all others were inconsequential - and would be on the periphery of the battle like flies.
There was no challenge in taking out new players - they are not interesting. absolutely not a threat. not skilled. and not a mentally prepared for a good PvP battle.
the PvP element early in the game had good balance at times. I can recall a lot of battles where it was 2 or 3 of us against 10+. we won most of our battles - because we had superb strategy. we were never cheap and would take on any head to head challenge that was offered. The excitement was when you take on a great lord/ GM - you expect them to *know* how to fight. you want it to be a very tense - difficult battle, and the more chance you have of losing - the better. but we also died A LOT.
I remember that we were watched for weeks by the counselors and were even told that they liked to watch us because ofthe way that we roleplayed our characters - and how interesting and inovative out techniques in battle were.
The only time they ever interfered with us was when we took out a group of about 10 tanks in order to get this great ax that one of them had (dont member specs on the weap) but after getting it, it had made MYM practically invincible - so it was taken away due to the fact that he could kill any player with one shot. Other than that - we had many conversations with the counselors and they used to spawn dragons and fire elementals into our battles for us so we would have more challenging obstacles - we always won.
I see no problem with well done PvP combat in any MMORPG. the problem is that there are very few people who can handle being a solo/semi solo true PvP - and ROLEPLAY IT. there is a difference between a good human PvP character and a murderous mob.
Right - also the point i was trying to make is that this allows for companies to adopt v6 slower - due to the fact that if they have old firewalls/equipment - they would not need to revamp or replace any of thier equipment or software in a hurried fashion. they would only need to if they planned on having V6 addys - which not all companies need. specially if they are less than 254 nodes.
well kinda - but here is what needs to happen for widespread adoption of v6:
the major backbone providers need to adopt v6 - not the end user. the reason is as follows:
the model is this: tier 1-3 providers need to implement v6 on a backbone level - which will allow for major availability in the v6 arena when it comes to allocation.
the end user needs only to have v4 nat happen - and have the v4 to v6 translation happen upstream. so - the end user has a 10.x private - which goes upstream to his isp, the isp has v6 peering relationships and has a block of legal v4 classes assigned to them. keep v6 out at the core backbone level for as long as possible - but each tier 1-3 has a certain v4 and v6 blocks that they own - and dole them out as needed v4 first.
this allows for a "trickle down" approach to adoption of addy's in the new space.
then as the net grows - you can still use v4 and v6 so as to maintain layers of complexity.
re-allocate all v4 addys as class C.
then as an end user client you only have a C net at best to allocate for dmz/external addy's - and make it semi-manditory that companies implement nat on a 10.x net. this will allow for almost unlimited flexibility in the corp - and very very flex environs for the ISP from 3 to 1 tiers.
if i am wrong let me know - it is just an idea - what do you guys think.
however I will admit that it will require a large renumbering of the net - but I as an admin have no complaints about incurring such a change - as it would be a fun project (to delegate;) and would give a lot of experience to all people. and could be promoted as national v4 to v6 implementation month etc... it is about time we had such a large scale project anyway - for community purposes.... ??????
let me know. I still will like it no matter what anyone says:)
I will post them - I have to get them developed. they were in down town HK proper - right near the star ferry terminal to tsim sha tsui (sp?). by the over head walkway. they have monitors there that advertise different things - and 3 or so were not BSOD'd but had an alert window with "this program performed an illegal operation..."
I know that ive said it already - but in hong kong...
in the airport - you buy a ticket for the train to down town - then you can insert the ticket into the phone for a "free" call. the phone has an 8" or so LCD touch screen on it - with web access, then you can voice search for the number, manual dial - or look it up. it advertises and does other things - but I was in a hurry, and with a woman - so didnt have too much time to check out all its capabilities!:)
well considering that in thailand - thai air allows for free internet access in their waiting lounges - I think there are better options.
I was on the island of koh samui in thailand at the airport and they let you surf for 15 mintues (if there are others waiting) as a complimentary service.
*EVERYTHING* is way too overpriced at airports these days (McDshit/donalds anyone) and to promote 20/hr - is not the best solution.
it is high time that people stop trying to gouge the money from peoples wallets. I am in favor of capitalism - but not lunacy.
I challenge all people to start putting lesser value on money. imagine if you begin to create cyberspace in a manner that is cheaper - faster - more efficient. lining at&t's pockets is the *least* of my priorities.
speaking of ibms research department - and hard drives...
I met this girl who worked for IBM - in thier HDD research group. her job was to take slices of the head of the drives and test them for quality. these slices were pretty damn small - as you know the head of a HDD is small.
was interesting... but what was better was when I asked her how she got the job:
she said that there we only like 4 people in the company with the skills to do this job, and I asked how she was qualified. she said that she was working at a craft fair - and someone from IBM saw her work, gave her thier card and told them to call her about a job.
then she took out a very small test tube looking thing. inside of it was the head of a toothpick that was very finely carved into a rose. and she had other ones of various designs.
Apparently - she had such fine motor skills that she could cut these slices of the HDD head practically by hand. and could carve the head of a toothpick into just about anything.
I'm guessing that when the rep from IBM saw this he said "trippy, wanna job?"
I would like it if someone sprayed M$ marketing material on my sidewalk - then I could personally spay over it and deface it. in fact I will go out and spray the following on my sidewalk tonight (provided I have spray paint in the garage)
"linux == good, M$ ==bad"
I dont care that you are saying that you wouldnt support linux, disney, M$ or whatever - what I was pointing out was that I thought that it was lame for you to equate a company telling you to kill someone - with a company hiring someone to spray paint a sidewalk.
you do the painting you do the time (or something) nazi... does that really impede your life so much.
and I know you will try to take it to the Nth degree and say - what if *every* company were spraying stuff all over the sidewalk.
well - they are not - and if they did - it would be like every other add to me - invisible.
as long as they all must use water soluable paint - then I am fine with it.
first I agree with you - that "If your company tells you to kill someone, you'll get arrested"
but drop the droid act.
I would LOVE to see this painted on my sidewalk.
I cant beleive that anyone would condemn this. WHO CARES. its not like im gunna be walking down the street and see this and think "GOSH DARNIT!!!! THOSE BASTARDS PAINTED MY SIDEWALK AGAIN!!! GET THEM! VANDALS BE DARNED!!"
who thinks like this - only people who want to impose their rules on others in a manner and through a medium that is not appropriate.
For example - I own a townhome in silicon valley - and the president of the homeowners assoc. has a rather large garden on her back deck - with rose bushes that grow overthe fence into the common area (yes this relates).
I had a bush (bugenvalia - but dont know how to spell it) that also grew a little over the fence. I loved this bush it looked great - then Iget a letter from the president that stated that my bush grew over the fence and that if I didnt cut it - i would be subject to a fine. (WTF - I thought) so I cut it.... and the *whole* bush died. I was so pissed off.
anyway - the point is that this lame president had nothing better to do in her free time (being retired) than to criticize and make rules. and I suffered for her unwillingness to go with the flow and let things be.
HONESTLY - who was hurt by those statements on the sidewalk - or my bush! - I cant beleive that you would even consider your statement and supposrt the notion that "IBM SHOULD PAY - dammit!"
in fact you should support this!
also - i have seen a lot of fantastic tagging art in and around SF - most of it more interesting than i see in the galleries of los gatos and saratoga.:P
the reason is that - since it is the largest NFS installation out there - they want to keep that fact very very top secret... so his employer has good reason to be very paranoid - so as to ensure that nothing leaks out of the redmond campus.
I did the same thing - however I played UO for 1.5 years. (WAY too much time), but started from day one. the gameplay at the release of UO was far better than in the later days - as they imposed too many rules etc... it really killed the atmosphere.
Phlux, MYM, Draygor - HellFire Guild.
Lots of great memories from those days.
anyway - Galaxies looks like ti will actually be really good - as long as they allow for well done PVP combat. The reason is that people are so much more fun to fight than npc monsters. everquest was just a spawn-kill-wait-spawn-kill-wait game. LAME.
Imagine when they have a sizable force of imperial supporters, and a large rebel alliance force going head to head in space dogfight. BAD ASS.
(although I want to be on the rebel side, I like Tie Fighters better than x-wings... wonder if you can hijack other peoples ships)
