It's always a good thing to take a look at the powersupply. I have a couple of different midi sized towers. The ones that I have found to the least noisy, are the ones where the fan are placed inside the powersupply close to the CPU rather than just inside the back where you can see them from the outside of the cabinet.
Sometimes no password is better than a easy password. Many times i have seen people try to guess a password when there were none.:) of course this was on test setups where it really didn't matter.:-) --------
There is no Loch Ness monster. Get over it and do something useful with your time.
This is one of the cool things about living today. We don't have to dedicate 100% of our time to surviving. We have some time that we can use for things that serves no other purpose than amuse us.
Of course this extra time sometimes produce very strange results, like links starting with g and ending with x, television, you name it. And then of course evil things like Napster(kidding:-))
So it is ok not to be productive all the time. I have a problem with that, I can't sit and stare at the TV for hours, the least productive thing I can spend my time on, is posting here. I know that I should learn that it is ok to be bored from time to time and just relax, but its so hard to be bored in these xDSL days.
Anyway to sum it up, all these things that are not useful are often very fun, and we need fun.
It's true!
Now with your W2k server I have discovered that Microsoft now can figure out to boot the machine when BSOD comes your way.
Gone are the old days where you had to remember to boot your NT box, now it does it all by it self. YES!!
They really know how to make my life easier! --------
I don't think that the names suggest anything wrong. But if you look at the contenet it might be another deal.
Anyway so you will have to sign up with another one of those companies that does nothing but provide news feeds to you.
I know one or two that provide a lot better service than any ISP, such as long retention time and good links so there is very few missing files.
So there might be coming more money their way soon.:-)
--------
Now I have never fully understood why this device should be worth installing, possibly making my Windooze even more unstable.
God forbid I should have to pumch in a url!
--------
All this means is just that they have made a better program to monitor the internet for plans to KILL THE PRESIDENT or maybe HOW TO PLANT A BOMB.
I don't think that anyone would believe that they are backing down as long as people are working on ATOMIC BOMB CONSTRUCTION and surfing after a TERRORIST HANDBOOK.
--------
Why does someone always think that just because something is popular, everybody is willing to pay for it?
A margin of 2% of all revenues sure would make one choose another format.
Maybe the wizards of the IT industry thinks that everyone makes huge profits from their products. They should try running a local radiostation and work at finding the money to keep it on the air and then the money to stream it on the net. Even if they broadcast ads, when they get to the "2% of all revenues" part, the whole deal will end with a "oh, never mind then".:-)
--------
Hey, It's Saturday so I better get dressed and download The Nations. They claim I will get in touch with babes.
They also mention something about aliens and bugs, but there must be a option to remove them.
Oh wait, it's for the Xbox, damd. Then the content must be painfully PC. --------
It's about time that the world discovers that they can be user for other things than flying beer advertising.
Hmm banner ads in the sky.:-) Don't use cookies and can't be filtered out.
Its only a matter of time before Microsoft produces a "light server" effectively leaving us all in the dark.
I agree. And I am sure that it will be more off than on. When it's on, 85% of the servers will only be able to emit a dim blue light
Well, that is really what is to be expected. You ask the "Recording Industry".
q: So what are your sales now.
a: They are going down, a lot!
q: What do you think is the reason, Napster?
a: Hell no. We don't mind loosing control in fact we believe that us not having control is boosting sales. If it was not for Napster, we are quite sure that we would suffer even worse.
Their major problem is that they won't settle for less than total control.
What they need in terms of selling music over the internet is not total control with perfect encryption.
They need a product where the music is copy protected in a way where people can't copy it, and here's the important part. without knowing that they are doing something "wrong". Like downloading a program to break the copylock.
Now, that won't stop people from copying but you are sure that everyone know that what they are about to do is wrong(slap on the hand:-)).
So if they now would provide me with a site where I could download all(!) the music I wanted for a price, so I could play it on my pc, put it on my Sony Network Walkman etc. I would be happy to pay for it. But they would need to get it right, I don't want to have to surf between 10 different record companies sites to figure out where the group i want to hear, is signed so that I could get the songs that I want. It needs to be on one site(will never happen)
When the site has been created, you could make a system where parents made a account for their children where they could use a fixed amount of money each month since they don't have credit cards:-). And through that way, teach what is right and wrong. These days everyone gets the lesson that if you want to get music fast, its on the internet, it is free and it is(was) on Napster.
The record industry needs to get on the waggon and show that they are living in the same world as everybody else.
May I close with a statement that I am quite sure that has been said in a boardroom here and there:
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what
I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.
The kerberos protocal for win2k IF you are running an all win2k network (no NT4, 95, 98, etc..) then it is very well encrypted and unless someone cracks a password (and only gets access to what that USER can access even then) they are not getting in. To crack said password you would have to have a SH*TLOAD of computing power (see bovine project). To steal the password you beat up the user.. but you ain't gonna snoop it.
Yes, you are correct, I doubt that anyone will bother to crack it. It is so much easier to go directly at the server to find a hole or backdoor.:-)
It seems to me that all the different divisions of Microsoft need to work a bit more together in terms of discovering what happens when they put all their programs together as one package(win2k). Like what services are installed as default on a Win2k server. Sure it's easy to install, but if you don'k know your win2k, the server is wide open for everyone(kinda like my old neighbor)
I am so tied of site@home, when I finally got a monster PC to get some killer stat, they changed the client so that it took even longer and my speed gain was minimal.:-)
Why not support something like folding@home that at least has a slight change of doing some good or bad, but atleast something.
But then again, I can't join since stanford seems to have blocked my entire ISP. heh
--------
Uhm, "relied on third party tools written in visual basic" now that's something you made up:-)
Still, who cares reading those company "success stories", no matter which company or product they are coming from. I can't even take these stories serious if it's a product I like/support. --------
If you were a happy Napster user and you were asked, what would you say?
"Hell no, I have never bought a CD after I got Napster and a CD-burner".
I don't think so. The even the average Napster user would have enough brains to provide a "clever" answer. --------
Many railroads has worked as telcos for some time because of their fiber networks. In many countries(most?), fiber has been placed along by the rails, not just because of the obious advantages of fiber but because many trains are diesel-electric.(diesel engine making electricity for a electric motor that turns the wheels). This construction creates a huge electomagnetic field that interrupt datatransmission in copper cables along the rail.
When the internet took off power companies and railroads often had a country wide fibernetwork that a lot of people became interested in buying bandwidth in. And think about future expansion. More fiber the "easy way"! A whole new market for these companies.
Some problems occured where the railroad was owned by the goverment, about them making money and being able to sell this product. Often the actual raillines was extraced into private companies from which the "original" railroad bought their services.
All very interesting if you are into that sort of stuff..:-)
While I agree that it suck, I must point out that it is really fast, despite the/. coverage.
Interesting, I'd like to know what they have in terms of hardware. But I guess that M$ would want to make sure that it perform well for future "success story" material. uhm

It should, at least if I got the commercial correct.
God, the lack of posting comments was beginning to get to me, going cold turkey sure is hard.
