You obviously have no grasp of economics.

And I think you've got a very biased one.

Can't you read "equal" as "equal in power" or "equal in technologic level"? There is no doubt that the economic strength of superpowers creates a very unfair competition to developing countries.

For example, how can african farmers that still use horses and manpower can compete with heavily mechanized western farmers?
and yet, european/american agricultural goods flood the markets in Africa, leading local farmers to bankrupcy.
Then, there is also the problem of subsidies, which poor countries cannot afford to give to their own companies, while western industries receive heaps.

They should just make their own internet if they want exclusive control. Ther nothing prohibiting them from doing this.

I'm sorry, but this selfish attitude is not helping much. They don't want exclusive control, (the US's got exclusive control at the moment, BTW). They just want a fair access to a working worldwide network.

They raise many interesting questions, like the unbalanced distribution of IP addresses and the control of TLD under a US-only authority. How long before you guys, decide self-willedly that this country brings terrorism, and decide to shut down their part of the internet?

  5. First, make software install easier on Linux Development Call To Arms · · Score: 2, Interesting

Well, this might be a little bit off topic.
I tend to think that to make people use Linux, an office application is not at the top of the list.
All they need is being able to install any application without the hassle of grabbing gazillion of obscure libraries and rpm's. Not to mention that most will have version number incompatible with the one used by your window manager/web browser/mail client.
They also want to use their usb digital camera without any command line tool.
Once you get that, and you manage to carry out all operations without opening a single shell and logging in as root, think of an office application as a priority.
Sorry, I consider myself as an advanced user, and I tried to use Linux on a daily basis. This is simply too inconvenient. Now I'm back to windows 2000.

  6. Electronic vote is against democracy on eLection '04 · · Score: 1

Besides technical issues, there is a simple reason why voting should remain as it is.

Should non-tech people trust a voting procedure whose reliability can be ensured only by engineers ?
If you answer yes, it means you forgot the basics of democracy.
democracy implies all citizens are equals, and therefore all must have the possibility to verify the vote isn't flawed in any way.

Electronic vote has no future in a so-called democracy.
