Being on the stage during that event, I would have to say that it is indeed the case that Mudge was standing toward the back of the stage, he was indeed playing a guitar at the end of our presentation, and did indeed bash the shit out of some old computers. Honest.
cDc and l0pht don't fight much more than any other siblings.
In the chance that some lucky/. reader will actually get the chance to lick my anus, I would have you know that there are very few wines, if any, suitable. Perhaps a nice Reisling, or maybe a Canadian Ice Wine. The choice is up to you. As for Veggie's penis, all I can say is that I saw the crotch of his pants ignite spontaneously, take what you will from that.
How do you feel about your ongoing association with internationally famous super-hackers, cDc? Judging by our last meeting, I would suggest that you are perfectly content, but we like to keep our friends happy, so let us know.
With all of the wanking going on, I am pretty sure you don't have time for a job with a 6 figure salary. Your college education really shows. Your well thought-out and spelled message is simple proof that your 4 years in college were a waste of money. Oh yeah, wank wank wank wank wank. Whew, wanking is work... maybe I could get paid 6 figures for this!
Small vocabularies? Are there any special words you would like to see in play? Let us know, we'll try to work them in somewhere.
We're all grown up, and what we do DOES have a higher purpose, but as far as masturbation goes, I'm analogue. Then again I suppose it could be digital, since I'm using digits. Think about that.
I may have a small vocabulary, but I can spell masturbation.
I don't really agree with you on this point. I believe that Ted Nelson's idea was that EVERYONE would become publishers, hence a certain amount of reciprocity would be in the system. Imagine if you will the copycounter at Kinkos spinning wildly in either direction, possibly turning into your favor if you choose to be a provider. Basically, if you become an active participant in this system you can more or less get away even, if not profit some. The only time that you might really lose, is if you contribute nothing and consume everything. If I recall correctly Nelson also had mechanisms in place for people who wanted to NOT charge for their information. Either way you don't really lose if you are a participant. Whilst clean water may be everybody's right, sitting on the tap with your lips wrapped around it guzzling it all down may not be. Maybe people who would like to guzzle off the free information should think of switching to beer.

I'm sorry to say fool, that I was there handing out CDs, our official CD's and there were no virus infected files on it. I scanned it on my own machine, installed, scanned again, nothing. If you got a legitimate release CD what did it say on the sleeve and on the disc itself. Each distributed CD was signed and written on by a member of cDc. Tell us who signed your disc and what they wrote.
I'm not surprised to see ISS running around telling lies about cDc, hell they lie about themselves. They claim not to hire hackers, yet they employ hackers. Christopher Rouland had Loki, an ISS employee, hand deliver a message of "Piss on him" to Tfish for our now famous response to ISS' attempted purchase of a prerelease version of BO2k.
Liars and cheats can do what they need to do to keep the fear levels high and sell their products, but cDc doesn't play that game. The official cDc distribution of BO2K is exactly what it claims to be: a legitimate remote administration tool. ISS has been sending out misinformation about BO2k since well before its release. I've read claims from ISS stating that BO2k is buggy which was why the release was delayed. That isn't true. They claimed to do intensive analysis of the product and defeated it's defenses. That isn't much of a task when you have the fully commented sourcecode sitting right in front of you. It makes it so simple that even ISS' "X-Farce" can hax0r the code.
The answer is simple. If you would like to use BO2K for its intended purpose and would like a guaranteed virus-free distro, download it only from the source: www.bo2k.com It's as simple as that.
Just as a side note here, there are no current members of cDc who are teenagers. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are all adults. We all work for a living, pay our taxes, avoid breaking laws and live our lives the way we please within those boundries. Now, even though this isn't the right thread, I'm typing here now.
I will be using BO2K on my machines at the place that I work. I will do so with the permission and support of my CFO. The reason for this is simple. Using BO2K I can fix most common problems with my user's machines without having to leave my desk. I can tune in to a user's machine and see what they are doing wrong, and help them fix things. This saves me time and energy, and my time is valuable. The less time I have to spend monkeying around with users machines, the more time I can spend writing code.
Oh, as for privacy: I have a plug-in that I wrote that pops up a little flashing light in the corner of the screen everytime I'm monitoring someone's system. They know when I'm doing it, they also know I only do it when they need help and everyone is happy.
Did I mention that BO2k isn't a Trojan? It can be used maliciously in a trojan-like way, but the same could be said for any other product in this class.
Some of the code will be GPL, some will be completely free, no licence at all.
As for a more virulent version... someone would have to make an initially virulent version. Currently BO2K doesn't go anywhere it hasn't been put. It has no viral behavior at all, and even by itself is not even a trojan.
I may be slipping out some information a bit early, but BO2k does not have a default port and will NOT ALLOW a server to have no password. That is by design, as it will generally stop, or at least slow down people who would like to scan for BO2k. It also weeds out the people who can't figure out what a port is.
Exactly one year ago, we released the first version of Back Orifice to the cries of "Make it open source! Make it open source!" We listen to our public and hence the source is completely open, complete with a fully documented SDK. BO2K is industrial strength software for the people, for FREE. It is also clearly better than the competition. If free software is a pain in the ass, why don't you go tell Linus to start charging for kernels?
The really sad part about this is that his school work was on there, and is now gone. The fact that this could end his grad school career because of the timidity of Harvard AND the increasingly idiotic actions of JP. If JP has his way, it looks like all security sites will have to disappear. Even if JP has to hire a hacker to frame them.
Before we start going all Cartesian here, maybe we should take a cue from the movie itself. Did anyone notice that the hollowed out book Keanu had his "warez" in just happened to be "Simulacra and Simulation" by Jean Baudrillard? Picking up on that one little hint in the beginning of the film really set up the ontological basis of the entire film. It's the ultimate in subjectivist philosophy. Bishop Berkeley would be spinning in his grave.
First of all, this is not a grave threat to the OSS movement. At the worst, nobody will use Apple's code. What this would result in would simply be a percieved failure of corporate value from open source licensing. If Apple bows out of the open source game, the only people who are hurt are the people who agreed with Apple's licence and worked on the code.
Having said that, I think that with some cooperation and thought, Apple could actually be a boon to the OSS movement. If they are willing to change their license to reflect the reasonable desires of the community, a great amount of credibility would be given to the concept of open source.
I'm not talking about Bruce Perens or any of the others who have been using their reasoning skills on this issue. I think that the people doing the damage to the OSS movement right now are the zealots. Zealots on any side of an issue generally hurt the cause they're intending to help. The open source movement doesn't need more zealots.
The record industry is really the only people to lose out in the mp3 revolution. The business is structured AGAINST the artists who make the music. An example from an excellent article on the topic of the music biz by Steve Albini at http://www.apk.net/cihs/verbal/albini.html:
This is in reference to a typical moderately successful MTV type band ---
This is how much each player got paid at the end of the game. Record company: $710,000 Producer: $90,000 Manager: $51,000 Studio: $52,000 Previous label: $50,000 Agent: $7,5000 Lawyer: $12,000 Band member net income each: $4,031.25
- This is the NORM, not the exception. Unless you really score the average artist is not destined to make much of any money in the business, while their art has financed the new homes of the executives and producers involved.
Think about how bands/artists will do with the middleman of the record companies gone. They could charge 1/2 the price for an album's worth of material, and still make gigantic cash.
Is it just my imagination, or does Bill Gates seem to be transforming into a strange cyber-version of L. Ron Hubbard? I've been to a number of developer events, and with all the Microsoft love going on, I'm hard pressed to think that they view Bill Gates as something less than a messiah. Regardless, we might come to expect these periodic moronic books, much in the same way you do L Ron Hubbard books. (The man has been "dead" for over 10 years, yet there seem to be "new" works by him every so often.)
I think that if Bill Gates moves onto a boat we're all in trouble.
If you look at the site, you will find that the only thing "cracked" is the index.html. You can still access all of the other pages on the site if you know the url. And if you look at the "cracked" site itself, it just doesn't seem like a real crack. My guess is that this is simply another calculated PR stunt. It worked, they kept their name in the press. As we all know, all press is good press.

We didn't pass any copies to anyone outside of cDc and beta testers. Microsoft will have to wait like everyone else.

Just a thought
