  1. Tell Wesley Crusher to sit down and shut up! on Does Age Really Matter? · · Score: 1

There's more to respect that what you know or what you can do, especially when it comes to things involving tools. Humans are still primates, and that means there's a dominance hierarchy. No one your age, regardless of talent/intelligence, etc, will get any respect from the older males, especially the dominant males, and probably the more dominant females in the group. You want respect, you're going to have to physically bulk up and defeat the alpha male in some form of contest. Or better yet, when someone disses you, call them on it in those terms. Tell them they're obviously wanting to maintain/establish primate dominance over you and you're going to make it easy on them by performing a submission gesture. Then bend over your desk and stick your ass up in the air and tell them "mount on up!" It'll work, it worked for me once. The hard part is waiting for a chance to use it.

  2. FINALLY! Someone points out it's just grinching on Lawrence Lessig On Hollywood's Attack On Fair Use · · Score: 1

Everybody knows most people in the public at large are just plain too lazy to borrow and copy (or download) copyrighted ANYTHING. It's just easier to buy it at the mall next time they're there. so the bitching of the RIAA and MPAA is just them trying to plier the fillings out of our teeth. And CDs are especially onerous, since there's SO MUCH MARKUP on them. Profit-protection legislation indeed! Remember when records (new) were $7 or so, and these new-fangled CDs were supposed to eventually be much cheaper?

  3. Well, just watch Battle Royale then on Junkyard Wars Needs A Few Good Contestants · · Score: 1

You're in luck, Bender 22! There's a film out in Japan now that has this 'best of both worlds' flavor. In BATTLE ROYALE, they take like 32 or so school kids to an island with explosive collars around their necks, and tell them they have 48 hours to kill each other off but for one. If there are any more than 1 of them, all the collars explode. Needless to say, the film's a bit controversial.

  4. Re:akira vs. ghost in the shell on Akira Being Rereleased · · Score: 1

Remember folks, it's an exhibition, not a competition... Please, No wagering. ;) Actually, both movies rule. The animation is totally excellent on both, and they look a bit alike in that respect. The acting of the english dub is WAY better in Akira, but the line "It's like a cosmic rebirth!" makes no sense at all. The subtitle says "It's like the birth of the universe!" and then the whole movie gets better from that one line. Akira's more freaky-weird, psychological, impressionistic. Ghost in the Shell is more concrete, more plot-oriented, has better naked bits. Oh, the music in Akira's really cool and the vehicle designs are more cooler. Get both.

  5. Extinct? Burned? We're fine, thanks on Police Arrest Teen for "Obscene" Web Site · · Score: 1

There are plenty of witches in Salem Mass, thanks to the modern pagan movement, and the ones killed in the 1600's were christians _hanged, not burned_ by their own wackos with too much political power. Bloody puritans are still ruining freedom in this country...

  6. But it's colorized! on Cassini Begins Jupiter Flyby · · Score: 1

Sorry everybody, those neato pictures from anywhere in space are computer enhanced, just like the chicks in the victoria's secret catalog. No lie. The real colors are thin, pale and lame, just like the chicks in the victoria's secret catalog.

  7. giving $$$ to the Bean Counters. on Princess Mononoke Released On DVD · · Score: 1

Y'all have got to realize every corporation has its bean counters and its creative people. The creative people are the ones who decided to bring this wonderful film to the US, and hire accomplished actors to do the voices, and had at least some say in bringing in the Japanese & subtitles. Then you've got the bean-counting MBA bastards that would fuck their own mothers in the liver if it reduced their ebitda/cost per unit/whatever the fuck. Now, the folks who listened to us and changed the disc deserve us buying this disc in DROVES or they'll never get any control away from the MBA bastards. If you hate CSS, the MPAA etc, WRITE YOUR FUCKING CONGRESSMAN and the editor of your local paper instead of bitching on internet sites. Politicians don't give a rat's ass about losers bitching anonymously on web sites. They care about who gets them elected, and that means money. Push for election reform and we'll get rid of CSS and all the anti-napstering and so on. End of speech.

  8. The tightest asses get to make all the rules. Why? on Censorware to be Mandatory in Schools, Libraries · · Score: 1

Why to the people with the tightest asses get to make all the rules? Angst Badger is too right! We need, as a society, to use our ignore buttons on these poor mental morons who project their problems onto us. I got talked to at work because I said someone was wearing a beautiful sweater (it was gorgeous, art nouveau). Textiles aren't tits, dammit!

  9. Enigma machine useless? Oh, no! on Slashback: Reuse, Rotors, Prairie Dogs · · Score: 1

They'll have to start using COMPUTERS! Ick! Quick, find the rotors! Find the rotors! Why didn't they just contact the owners of the one of the other two enigma machines and machine new rotors? Or scan them and use stereo lithography or any other 3d xerography thang?

  10. People do NOT act out fantasies here. on Akira on DVD? It Might Happen · · Score: 1

Very very few people indeed act out their fantasies in america. Don't you have any? If people acted out their fantasies all the time, you couldn't go to your mailbox without a gun strapped on over your bathrobe & slippers. The only people who regularly act out fantasies here are historical re-creationists and swingers. boy, wish I was one of those...

  11. Mononoke best anime for now. Best movie period tho on Akira on DVD? It Might Happen · · Score: 1

Coming december 19. Now, Akira totally rules, don't get me wrong. And the two movies are so different it's actually dumb to even compare them, except one issue they both deal with: greed.

  12. Re:Gimme (Christmas isn't christian) on Dave Barry Takes On Sony · · Score: 1

Christmas is really mostly pagan anyway. Jesus was born (according to biblical scholars) in spring. the romans made the census when there was young animals to count. The Church moved the date of Jesus' birth to the winter solstice to match when the europeans were celebrating the birth of their pagan god/s. (On the Julian calendar, the solstice is on Dec 25.) Now the gift-giving? I believe that came around in the 1800's. Merchants claimed to base it on the 3 Wise Men and their gifts, but that's all commercial hooey.

  13. Stop having kids. on New Glue Could Reduce Computer Trash · · Score: 1

If you do, I hope you don't let them browse the internet or watch tv so they'll be forced to read books for entertainment and they'll learn how to spell.

  14. Dear Mr Shakespeare: on What If There Was No Copyright Law? · · Score: 1

Our firm has found you to be producing a play, "Romeo and Juliet". This clearly a blatant violation of the intellectual property rights of our client's play "Romeus and Juliet". You will immediately cease and desist all production and performance of this play, and turn over to us all scripts, notes, and any other items relating to "Romeo and Juliet". Likewise, our client Mr Boccacio has written a large volume of work which you seem to have drawn from liberally over the past several years. You will immediately turn over all profits and assets gleaned from these plays and your interest in the World Theater London. Failure to do so will result in severe reprisals and litigation.
