I cut off satellite about a year ago now and have been very happy. With HD content and 3 receivers I was paying Directv just under $100/mo without any premium services. My current setup is with a media center PC setup in my living room as our primary entertainment and a roku box in the bedroom. I use the NetFlix 1 DVD plan, but use streaming almost exclusively. I was already a member of Amazon Prime so that is basically a bonus. I expect Amazon will expand and get better with time, but there is a lot of content overlap with NetFlix and not nearly as many features, so it's a very distant second. I'm not a huge sports fan, but definitely wanted to be able to get college football/NFL. I have AT&T DSL so I have access to ESPN3 which I've found to be very satisfactory and between that and OTA network television I get enough live sports to keep me happy. The only actual channel I miss is the Science Channel, but so far enough of that type content (National Geographic, NOVA, etc) is available on NetFlix and Amazon to keep me entertained there as well. It's not perfect, but I'm much happier with my current setup than I was with satellite.
what is with the pop ups on drudge report, they have always been blocked before. How do you get rid of these new ones? The pop-up icon does not display like it normally does... arrgggg!
I live in a Rural area (about 90mi from a true metro area, 15mi from a city of 40,000). I moved from Nashville TN where I had used @home for nearly 2years. Now I am stuck with 56k (actually the best connect I ever get is 36k). This really sucks. I love the area where I live (great schools, quality of life is good, low crime, etc.) but I am truly in a digital backwater. Unless someone comes out with a 2way satellite setup that is affordable or a wireless system I don't see broadband ever coming here. The telcos, cable cos, and everyone else only focus on the supposed major markets (even though there is no competition out here in the rural world).
Oh well, its still worth living here even with the limited tech options...
LOL, I bought that exact same configuration with a 1 meg video card and a "huge" 15" monitor. I got it specifically to run OS/2 v2.1. I still remember the sales guy mention what a power user system I was getting... and I used to get all my OS/2 shareware off of ftp.cdrom.com not too long after that.
I think you are really jumping the gun here. There is no danger to linux from this merger, that I can see, only more opportunities. If all the linux specific hardware companies combined they wouldn't match up to compaq or IBM. This will allow VA to be more competative and hopefully allow them to meet large coporate orders like Dell, IBM, Compaq, etc.
is such a computer moron that I have had to restrict his access level on his computer to guest. And I have hidden every single directory other than the one that contains his files
maybe that is one of the really good things about linux... by requiring people to log into the system, and hopefully keeping them from logging in as root this can cut down on the damage they can do. On the other hand that is how you learn... I was never all that competent with computers in college when 3 of my neighbors were CS majors (had a problem they just breezed in and fixed it) once I moved on and had to beging fixing my own problems then I really learned how to use my system. Of course now I have started over again at the moron level in linux (I hope this will be the system for a long time).
It was not my intention to imply a conspiracy, just to show that lying is part of someones character. If they lie on the small stuff then they will lie on the big stuff. As far as a conspiracy I think in this case its more related to greeed. Clinton didn't want to step on the toes of his bigest campaign contributors.
Lets not make such a big deal out of a small political comment
That small political comment was a LIE and he knows it. Just like Clinton lies about everything. People kept putting thier head in the sand and saying "well he only lied about sex", but the lies are a pattern of behavior with these people. Now they are lying about China, and their complicity in the advancement of China's nuclear wepons. Regan got us through the Cold War and these fools just dragged us right back in.
Thats good, I forgot about that quote. Funny how he keeps claiming to be the technology expert yet continues to make stupid statements like this. If I don't know something I generally try to keep my mouth shut untill I know a little about it.
OTOH, he has done a heck of a job of e-engineering stupid government processes, and saved the good citizens billions of dollars in red tape.
You can't be serious. The only true reduction in the size of the government has come from decimating the Military. A first hand account of this is what my father is currently doing. He retired as a State Trooper and later went to work providing security for the federal court system where he lives. This used to be the job of the U.S. Marshall's Service. So in a claim to reduce the size of gov. they got rid of that service... but they contracted it out to a private service at a higher rate than what it cost them in the first place, but that lets them claim they reduced the size of that divison of the gov.

we have CO2 scrubbers, they are called plants (you know trees, grass, alge, etc.).
