  1. Remind you of something? on Pentium IV study · · Score: 1

Sounds exactly like what happened with 3dfx and nVidia!

  2. Actually it was the resgister on MS Passport Privacy Policy Revised · · Score: 1
Actually it was the resgister that got it done... I think it struck a deeper chord with more of the sites.

I do wish that more people would advocate Slashdot.org however, it does carry more of the topics that more mainstream sites don't have, even though it is the source of a lot of FUD sometimes.

  5. With Opt-In filtering there is no need for this on Coming Soon: Burn-Proof CDs · · Score: 1
Charley Pride claims he was shocked to see his songs on Napster and that the root of the problems is that it is easy to share the songs, not that the CDs themselves were rippable. (It seems to be true, nobody started complaining about copying CDs until Napster emerged)

So taking that into account, there will be no need for Rip-Proof CD-Rs because the RIAA wants Napster to use Opt-In filtering. Voilà, now Charlie Pride doesn't have to worry about his songs being on Napster, and there is no need for Rip-Proof CDs.

Well... as far as I know ever since Windows 95 it's pretty much been cross-compatible.

  9. Pay to download spam? on Bringing Interruption-Based Ads To the Web · · Score: 1
Hmm, that brought up an interesting thought. I don't want to start paying heavy money for a broad connection just so I can download advertisements faster. If advertisements are to be linear, then it will take me the same time to view an ad on DSL as it does to view it on a 56k.

I imagine people using 56ks will ask themselves "Why get a better connection? I'll just be paying to download their ads faster"... it might stunt the growth of the internet... who knows?

Normally I don't find my eyes follow my head movement, actually my eyes tend to focus on one object even when I move my head...

I suppose this will be helped by the fact that the mouse cursor moves with your head so your eyes can follow it, but I imagine it would be very eerie and hard to use. Turning the tracking on and off would be hard too, I don't necessarily want the mouse to move wherever I look; It will probably be very hard to get used to only moving my head when I want to move the cursor...

While great for some, I find it easier to flick my mouse than risk a neck injury.

  14. Everybuddy on Linux On Windows - The Thin End Of The Wedge? · · Score: 1

Running AIM, MSN, ICQ, and whatever else, is just plain annoying. I'd also find it much easier to work with if I was able to have the same interface for each, it would be a lot easier and more intuitive.

I could stand to live without all that bloatware on my hard disk anyway.

The duck is actually a common clipart item. You can move the recycling bin around, notice that in the next picture it's gone. Also, if you've used Windows XP before, you'll know that by default it's not in that position. You'll also notice that Windows has been using the same icons for their folders for a long time, and that those icons were available in themes for Windows before they were made a standard on OSX. In any case, these are things that you wouldn't notice at first glance, and wouldn't affect your first impression of either OS. I hardly think of this as intellectual property as these OSes hardly resemble each other aside from 4 icons. Ooo.

  17. Re:Useful for Windows, maybe... on Booting Linux In Three Seconds · · Score: 1
Why just make it easier for Windows to reboot? If you truly wanted to improve things for Windows users, you would make it so they didn't have to reboot.

However, you're right, it would be useful for Windows users as, on average, most of them don't keep their systems running. I doubt a normal family computer would stay on 24/7.

  18. Re:I disagree on The Ultimate Destination of Banner Ads · · Score: 1
I find more things I want in search engines than I do using banner ads. (Read: Never with banner ads.)

It's more likely, though, that I read a (nearly) unbiased article and if I'm interested, then I'll start searching around for it. Either way, banner ads never clue me in to something I want, because I automatically think they're out to scam me.

So, even though you disagree about search engines, it doesn't really make a point about banner ads... at least to me.
