I don't understand why Cloud Technology is necessary for something which requires only a secure website and identity validation. Is this a cast of technology for the sake of technology?
while the specs for decoding video are AWESOME (especially for the price point), what I continually point out to people is that the low CPU can still kill you on some things. I have an NVIDIA ION / Atom D330 HTPC that can destroy the 40Mbps x264 killasample absolutely no problem, yet has trouble on some of the even medium-flashy skins for XBMC.
like i said, performance/dollar this thing is still awesome, but you do still have to think of the whole package.
It's mouthwatering.. waiting is the hard part.. I want one in my car, at my desk, at work, everywhere. Do you think they'll sell these as a six pack?:)
Who cares? This isn't news for nerds, it's fodder for fanboys.
How can I tell you don't have a stack of Apple stock? Because you are sitting here, creating a post like that.
If you had any stock in them at all you'd be dancing a jig. That's an impressive jump in stock price and evidence the company is still growing.
Two ways to look at this - from a financial investment - looks good! The other, it's that little company that was trounced by Microsoft for years, made cute little computers, but lost the plot and market share and nearly died. Re-invented by Steve Jobs, it's back and badder than ever and from whom more toys will be forthcoming.
I can't help that think with record breaking profits like this, there has to be some sort of bubble that's about to burst. Maybe it's paranoia brought about by the current economy, but goodness.. $13 billion in profit? More than 25% of their revenue is profit? Something is going on here..
They are building all their products in China. What's so hard to figure about this? OK, Foxconn will now pay the workers a few Renminbi more, per hour, but don't expect that to dent the profit margin much.
Nokia and RIM should read and weep. This should have been them.
Poor choices of business partners and lack of vision on the part of RIM, nothing new there. Someone has to win.
I imagine Steve Ballmer needs a new chair at the moment. So that's a plus for the local office furniture outlet he buys from.. expect them to declare a good quarter, too.
Whoever let this man onto mainstream media made a huge mistake for themselves.
For the rest of us, potential win.
I would love for him to spread his perspective and morals to a larger audience, because, from what I know of him (and being under the impression of the fallacy of his alleged rape charges), he represents a truly free, government-agnostic (am I using that right?) way forward for human kind. Our governments should not do evil unto others, and that should be apparent from it's own historical evidence.
"In a moment, I'll have as my guest one of the network executives, whose personal records I released on my leaks website earlier so people can get a good idea where he stands on things."
Fair an open discussion. They only place you can host that is on the internet... until such a time as his site is locked up because some Big Media sponsored legislation alleged there was a reference to pirated Simpsons episodes on there, somewhere.
I'm completely with you there. Probably bought my last Apple product.
Free and open source is important, but even more important is open data and file formats.
I suspect the only way you can support the rather expensive hardware Apple offers is by assuring it isn't available anywhere else, same goes with media. If you can only get certain school textbooks through Apple, because they have an exclusivity clause in the contract you either lug dead tree or ante-up.
$99 annual developer's fee later *cough*xcode*cough*
Well, the big difference there is that nothing stops you from cross-compiling your software on other platforms.
Except when Apple sends you a not-so-nice-gram pointing out where you signed-your-rights-away-in-a-EULA
Doesn't this sound an awful lot like the "Bad Old Days" of the music business, where performers signed contracts, only later to find they surrendered all their rights to some shady producer?
I was way more excited about this until I realized I'd misread "psychics" as "physics". Sigh.
My favorite like about the bankruptcy of The Psychic Friends Network.. They didn't see it coming.
I would wonder how physics would see something.. physics explain how something is seen: photons launched from star (at C), wavelengths of light, optic receptors, transmission of electrical signals, etc.
Remote Viewing though... cough... If I could do that I'd be looking for gold or diamonds, not space junk on the Moon.
YA.NEWS.SERVICE February 1; Cupertino, California - Apple Incorporated, formerly Apple Computer will again be changing the company name to Apple Syndicate. Anyone who doesn't like it will find themselves in the Baylands wearing concrete Birkenstocks at low tide and sea water at high tide.
So you create a GMail (mail) account and you have also a Google+ (social network) forced-account...
And what's different from creating a Hotmail (mail) account and also having a Messenger (social network) forced-one? 'Cause I remember not being able to untie them...
Huh... Devil walks amonst us!!
Nothing to see, move along...
Fortunately I was in on the ground floor with both (actually I haven't been back in my Hotmail account for about 10 years... but I bet it still there.
I signed up for G+ from an existing gmail account and it didn't bother me about reality identification.. then they wanted it.. now they don't.. next week on The Hokey Pokey...
The worst thing so far was giving out an email address to Facebook, who just can't shut up.
They're trying to keep their old business model alive as long as possible.
Understandable, from the point of view of keeping electronic fund management programs, which buy and sell stock based upon numbers moving in certain directions. Who's going to invest in a studio that gives its films away after the initial Tour de Theatres? The belief is that the really big money is in holding onto the film for 2 or 3 hundred years (where they once burned the originals in the backlot, eh?) Hollywoods is cranking out films far faster than they were 10 years ago - I could keep up with that pace at theatres, but not anymore. Something tells me the real money is made in two installations - initial theatre run and initial DVD sale, after that it's a trickle. But it's still their stuff and they want to hold onto it in pur-pe-tu-ity.
Time for government to wake up and realize they're being pwned by business. If government doesn't change, then it's up to the people to change the government.
Your GPS receiver can only be used against you if you are arrested and it is confiscated, at which point any history stored in the device may (depending on the warrant) be obtained and admitted as evidence.
They cannot be used to track you.
RTFA.
Supreme Court set aside a ruling on this until a later date. Which means they are yet to make a decision on that.
As most cookies are not installed by Law Enforcement, you're not quite following the plot.
See, I as a private eye, could install a GPSr device on your car or cookies on your computer to serve me in my private investigations (or even my nefarious plot to take over the world) which has nothing to do with the 4th Amendment -- unless Law Enforcement tries to use any of the data I've gathered.
Hopefully that'll bring this BS to an end, along with ending the jobs of the officers that continue to pull this stunt. Is getting a search warrant on someone really that time consuming?
The police regularly ignore the rules these days, it rarely ever costs anyone their job. In the future they will probably just not enter that particular info into evidence.
Yeah, but having convictions overturned due to failure to follow the law is a sign of incompetence. Consider this case centered around someone who was undeniably guilty of criminal activity, who will now walk free. That's not quite doing the job of Law Enforcement Officer, is it.
Your iPhone, smart phone, auto GPSr, or even hand-held GPSr track being used against you.
Funny how they don't bundle both decisions together, though clearly the attachment of a device to an unwitting suspect's vehicle is a more active role than seizing records your vehicle or device have been recording for you.
Best be careful about Geocaching near marijauna farms (even if you are unwittingly near one in a state or federal park!)

Where do I sign up to vote "yes please"?
Sadly, not in the US of A. The EU may be screwed up in some ways, but on this item they have a firm grip of reality. Well done.
In related news:
Apple spent a tiny, tiny portion of their profits bludgeoning their competition in patent litigation.
$100 million sure sounds like a lot until you see how much they make.
Which is why I mentioned it. If you are on the other side of Highway 101, at a certain company you are probably cringing at this turn of fortunes.
Why not do evil? It evidently pays very, very well.
Who cares?

Expect some of those profits being rolled into further efforts to battle back Android and secure a future for Apple.
Also expect more headlines in Slashdot regarding how they are spending it.

I signed up under a pseudonym and haven't been back in since.
I wonder how it will greet my next visit.
Apple Has Invested More Than $100 Million Suing Android Manufacturers
It's looking after their Intellectual Property, wither they have that property or not.

I'm still holding onto Beenz until I can find someone who will give me a good deal for Flooz. So far, Whoopi Goldberg hasn't returned my calls.
You could always cash it all in and get some slood.
Assuming you can find a civilisation advanced enough to have discovered it by now
