  1. Re:Problems with the Makefile on Linux 2.4 Schematic Poster (Generated From Source!) · · Score: 1

I am running into consistant trouble when it is perfroming the ring 3 calculations. it always seems to crap out looking for the other platforms. I am running mandrake 7.2 and it craps out in the same place with the new script as well as the old script. Do I not have the entire source? Linux Newbie so be gentle :-)

When I look closer at the DNS servers....I get this curious information:

    Net Access Corporation (NETBLK-NAC-NETBLK02)

    Netname: NAC-NETBLK02

I am not that familiar with DNS practices out there in the real world but IMHO it appears that they don't even host thier own website and that Net Access Corporation may be the ones supplying this little twirp with bandwidth and DNS. Perhaps one of the more savvy slashdotters out there could clear this up for me and others watching...

  3. "Used only for Demographics" on Privacy Concerns and The CueCat · · Score: 1

This is the comment that scares me. Not because they can track what I do and don't do on the internet...but rather what it does to my mailbox. "Demographic" and "Conglomerate Form" are buzzwords used by companies that give them a loophole to sell this "information" to marketing research firms. This is big business and people are paying top dollar for all this "information". What this means to you and I is a flood of unsolicited emails, and whatnot for crap that is similar in interest to the stuff we already choose. I wonder if the guy that had the bright idea to give them away still has a job.

Nothing is "hack" proof...we have the advantage of numbers and spare time. It's back to the monkeys/typwriter adage....if enough people tinker with it...they will figure it out...and share.

  4. Evolution of the EULA on Linux Drivers For Free Barcode Scanner Cease-And-D... · · Score: 1

I think that this is the first in many cases where this is going to be happening. The more "agreements" like this that end up in court the more "agreements" there will be. Nobody likes being sued and what we are going to get into is a serious case of CYA, unfortunately, the only way to do this is with vague yet specific terminology, lots of money and a gaggle of lawyers on fat retainers. This has got to stop before we end up having to agree to the disclaimer that pops up on our tv screen everytime we turn it on before we can surf some channels. It's almost like they don't want people using their product. This is a perversion to creative thinking. If anybody should be upset and seeking restitution for it it should be those that have written the software....but then it wouldn't be in the spirit of Open Source. They should be recieving letters that say "Hey thanks for hookin that up for us...we were having some trouble with it....mind if we post it on our site?". "Help Help I'm bein repressed"
