Just Don't Sign Up for Long Distance

On: The Joys Of Big Business; or Why AT&T Long Distance Sux

Last time I got a phone line I explicitly told the operator that I did not want to sign up for a long distance provider, so as to not have to pay the Universal Service charge every month even if I did not use long distance. If I need to call long distance I shop around online for the cheapest dial-around service I can find. Lately I've been sticking with 1010811 as they charge $0.05/minute regardless of time of day or whether the call is in state or out of state and they don't charge extra fees or cram my bill.

I've been slammed by MCI more than once. I will never, ever do business with MCI.

According to this AP Wire link MirCorp says the Mir will be permanently manned beginning early next year, including visits by so-called ``space tourists.'' Here's the link. I tried to verify this at MirCorp's website but couldn't get through.
