Most people, (except for a small minority) are already very likely to purchase MS products and be dependent on them, the monopoly thing remember?

Macs were big in schools in the days of DOS but ever since windows 3.1 MS has been replacing Macs at a pretty good rate.... I used Macs in high-school and at the time they were definitely easier to use than DOS machines (ironically I used mainly MS Word and Excel on those macs). When I went to university I started using windows, first 3.11 and then 95 and 2000. Until somewhere in my early windows 95 days I still had the feeling that Macs were superior because I remembered them being so cool in high-school. That feeling quickly left when I had to use a Mac again, the first thing that struck me was that the interface which I remembered to be *so* cool actually seemed dated and not as easy to use as 95. On top of that the machine wasn't as fast and responsive as a contemporary wintel machine, and that one button mouse.... Add to that that Macs were very expensive and very closed format. I started not to like Macs anymore. Now I still don't like Macs even though I've heard OSX is supposed to be nice. Macs are just so expensive and propriatry-format.... IMO Mac people have no business attacking MS because of it's closed-software philosopy because Apple is every bit as bad, they're just not so big and rich.

I had an email discussion once with a guy who had gotten emails from RMS personally asking him to add gnu to Linux, and it wasn't like it was someone in RMS' inner circle either, just a guy that happened to get in contact with RMS for some reason or other.

I know no-one is going to go to jail for leaving gnu out of Linux but I'm not so sure about what kind of things RMS would (ab)use to get his way if he could.

fighter pilots (and other people) black out when their bodies take too many g's for too long (measured in seconds). They've got special suits and in some case special training to retard the blackout. The blackout is caused by blood flowing away (or sometimes to) the brain because of centrifugal acceleration (mainly directed along the main axis of the body). I don't know what the effect of a sustained exposure to high acceleration after blackout has set in is but it doesn't seem so healthy to have no blood in your brains for a while.

A Fighter planes can tear off it's wings if it makes certain moves that stress it's construction beyond it's limits. The limits depend on the construction of the plane. There are different moves which can tear off wings but the general principle is that the pressure on the wings is so great that it creates a massive shear force and bending moment where the wing joins the fuselage.

Microsoft said last July, that over the next year and a half, nine automakers would ship cars with built-in devices that use the Windows CE operating system, which allows drivers to check their calendars or stock portfolios and use voice commands. "

It seems to me that what they are saying is that CE will only be a part of the system, I don't think the navigating system and other more essential feautures of the car will run on CE, just some address-book, internet apps, etc. etc.

not a good analogy... With music cd's it's commonly accepted that a cd is a cd and will play on any cd player (also the ones on your pc) no matter who makes the cd or the player. With your pen it's a totally different story because everyone knows that different fountain pens take different cartridges. And everyone understands that VHS tapes won't play in Betamax etc. etc. CD's are or were more standardized, changing that causes confusion amongst consumers. It's like if you buy some floppy disks and you don't bother to read the package because you know they're all the same anyway but then they suddenly mess up your pc.

In my evolving "theory of civilisation", I can't help noticing that the fact that something is written down means that people give it more importance than if it weren't. Hence the importance of the Bible and Koran: they're written down, so they must be true. The fact that it is written in "the book" is the basis for a point of view, neglecting the fact that the person or persons who wrote that book are as human as the rest of us.

In the case of the bible and the torah this is not true, there have been extensive debates in both Judaism and Christianity about exactly which books to include in the bible and torah. The bible and the Torah are not just a collection of stuff that was written, some books were rejected, some included. In the case of the Koran I have heard that indeed non-western logic like "it is written therefore true" is used but I am not too sure on this so don't flame me on it.

I think the quality of FM is even better than that of 128kb streams. If one would do an a/d on an FM stream they would have pretty much the same thing as the digital stream if not better. And I've never recorded anything of internet radio, I don't even know how to do it.
