You had a Pentium with something older than DOS 5?
    I'm refering to 286s running 3.4.
We had scanners and stepper controlers connected to these machines. The scanning software actualy ran in Windows v1.x.
When 5 cam out the memory that was opened greatly improved my day.

By the time all the drivers were loaded we frequently had around 350K to run programs. The extra memory was used to hold data. I worked in graphics at the time and there is nothing like spending all day on a large document and finding it nolonger fit in memory.

There has been alot of talk about turning off the engine and loosing stearing and breaks but I'm not sure if that would actualy happen. If the car has an auto transmission and you turn the ignition to the point that the engine will stop but not lock the stearing column the engine will continue spinning. The momentum of the car will transfer through the axil to the trans as long as the trans has pressure the clutches should remain engaged. The engaged clutches should drive the front pump which will maintain pressure. Torq will be transfered backwards to the nonrunning engine causing it to turn. The turning will maintain pressure for stearing and vacume for breaks. This will work until the car stops and the transmission losses preasure thus breaking the connection between the wheels and the motor.

At least that is how it worked throught the early 90s.

There used to be rear pumps in auto trans that made it possiable to drift start old autos.

  5. Buddy punching on Biometrics in the Workplace · · Score: 1

I work for a company that sells biometric timeclocks. The main selling point is to prevent buddy punches where one employee punches in for another. The system dosn't store the fingerprint. It scans your fingerprint and generates a value using key points. When you punch in you type in your employee number and then your prompted to put your finger on the pad. It then compairs the value calculated to what is stored. There isn't enough information stored to identify you.
