Bah, he was probably talking about an Amiga, made by Commodore. They kicked ass. I have one that has been sitting in a damp basement for 5 years -- much worse than buried in a chicken coop. It booted up first try...

    Quoted:
-snip- It blows my mind that if someone hands the cable guy $50, and he hooks up some extra channels without authorization, we would all agree that this person is stealing cable. -snip-

The problem is that the DirecTV is using the public airwaves to transport its system. The cable company is using a private infrastructure, usually cables in conduit underground or on poles. Just like it's illegal to snag free copper pairs from the phone company, it's illegal to snag free cable service. All copyright and other crap aside (since I don't exactly understand it), these are two completely different animals.

When you use a cell phone, talk on a walkie talkie, or anything that transmits RF, you assume the risk that your signal can be intercepted. Don't like it? Use wires.

Nobody is forcing the artists? I can tell you from experience that many artists are wooed by record execs and told that "this is their big break" or "they have it made" or whatnot. They are offered hundreds of thousands of dollars guaranteed as opposed to "maybe your record will sell if you promote it yourself." Which would you pick? Having someone else take care of your marketing so you can concentrate on your music, or having to worry about selling your CDS as you play in shitty bars and dirty clubs in the middle of nowhere, getting fucked over by club owners who dont give a shit about you? Yeah, I'd pick the first one too.

"If you need support, RTFM, and roll your own." I used to feel this way when I started working for a High School that has over 500 computers. Once 5 or 6 labs, each from a different vendor for different purposes, went down, I had my hands full. With just one lab, I could leisurely fix it, but when a bunch go down, you just want the answer. You could care less how much it costs, or what you learn from it. A bit of triage, I guess. Not good, but it's what happens. "Roll your own" is an unacceptable answer for many institutions with only one or two tech guys. Chris

I find something wrong with the comment "I find Windows and MacOS to be much less intuitive and harder to use than Linux. You just have to get used to it". So, basically, what you're saying is that Linux is intuitive once you get used to it. Dictionary.com states that intuitive is "Known or perceived through intuition." So, wouldn't an intuitive operating system be one that could be used with only the skills that mother nature gave you, not skills you arrived at yourself? Chris
