Lectures aren't all they are cracked up to be. Having a lecture via podcast would help everyone. Passwording it will just hurt the university because people will be angry.
THESE STUDENTS ARE PAYING REAL MONEY. Don't keep it from them. In fact, I think sometimes a podcast would be more helpful than being at a lecture. You can pause, rewind, stop to think, etc.
I just want it to be known that I was a front of the class sitter because I have trouble paying attention in the throng. If my university had podcasts I would go to class and then before the test I'd have people over and we'd watch the highlights from the podcasts (maybe edited video).
I think regionalizing the internet would make it cease being the internet. It would be many intranets.
I oftentimes surf german websites. It is sometimes when I exhaust the english sites, or just want to have a different taste. I would get german newspapers, but I can't because of the little body of water between me and them. The internet bands that gap and makes the world a little smaller.
Just think if you would subscribe to a certain internet just to get content like cable. It would take away the whole point of the internet being a sharing community.
Also think if you were to subject everyone to speak english on the internet.
Or if ONE AMERICAN ORGANIZATION OWNED ALL OF THE RIGHTS TO URLS. (ICANN)
Or perhaps you can envision the internet that makes peace between nations and broadens education and innovation to everyone.
You can wall off your internet, but I WANT THE WORLD!!!!
Would a workplace have such a slow machine right now?
NO. PCs are unusable under 500mhz nowadays. Your mac is so old it hurts. You should get a decent mac, or revert to a faster os. (7.6.1 is fastest for that machine).
Next Computer had Openstep/nextstep running on HP machines, Sun machines, their own hardware moto 68k, and intel (486).
I suspect they will leverage both architectures. I think machines are just fast enough today to do what we will want of them. What else could someone want?
I just see Apple making server iron with ibm's chips. IBM has the lock down on this sort of thing, because apparently HP, Sun, Dell, SGI don't.
Personally I would like to see Mac os X developed so that it is even usable on a LC III (68030) or an old 486. I mean, cause isn't that what linux is always crabbing about(running on vintage hardware).
I have a dual 1.8Ghz G5. I think my next 2 machines will just be the same, only all hooked together.
I use.net (windows & visual studio 2003) at work. It does the job, but is inelegant.
I use cocoa at home. It is wonderful. It makes me want to learn more of the api's within mac os x.
I recommend using SDL (for graphics and sound). It is fabulous, and multiplatform. I could write an app and then easily port it to.net or linux.
THE KICKER: I don't change my ideas and ideals when I switch platforms. Everything is still there, and I'm the better for it. UI guidelines are great (get Apple's PDF). The platform is ananthema to the fact of why. I've been using my pc laptop at home to program my Game Boy Advance. It is great, and I'm learning so much. It is broadening my skills and that is transferring to everything else.
so my advice. JUST GO FOR IT WITH WHATEVER YOU HAVE. Make decisions later.
oh, and plan to throw the first one away. I always do. (idea from mythical man month)
I am glad this guy made this comment and wanted to have this class. Intelligent design is not backed by any biologists. It is only so we can have creationism taught in our schools. What a bunch of shit. bunch of shit.
When they have more than the bible and a few theologians then maybe it could be considered.
If they worked with biologists to understand organisms and all of the stuff already studied, then maybe it could be considered.
If they didn't just deride evolution instead of studying real things and relating them to the world, then maybe there could be a discussion considered.
But when some jesus waving ignorant religious fanatic undermines hundreds of years of study with a good catch word, that pissed me off.
If I were him I would not have apologized. I WOULD HAVE TELEVISED!!!
Nice backwards movement. First they are too big, now they are too small. Pretty soon you will be able to telnet from it and change the screen from portrait to landscape. Too bad the newton failed so miserably. To think it was made fun of because of the hand writing recognition, later rectified beautifully, and the palm pilot you have to write in special letter, that isn't handwriting recognition, that is a stopgap.
Has anyone used Shorten format,.shn
I heard a lot of show trading has been going on with
the shorten format (etree.org) grateful dead, phish, widespread panic, etc, etc.
Do geeks listen to hippy music? They should!!!
BTW I guess shorten is a higher quality format for music trading.

Hey man,
separate work from life.
You shouldn't take out your inner problems on your work people.
Don't take it personally. It is just software. Deal with it.

We just can't ignore the hundreds of years of research. Evolution is not the real issue here, it is creationism.
I am just so thankful of the scientific method. It is just so perfectly weighted.
Make assumptions, study something, make findings, publish them, learn from them, and let everyone be more informed because of it.

Yeah, that was dispelled right away. it has the chips.
