The use of computers models to predict what to buy has been around for some time. The absolute belief in these models caused Long Term Capital Management to go under in 1998 ( see When Genius failed ). I also highly recommend reading Fooled by randomness
I graduated in 2001 and I decided to stay for my MS. After 1 year, I had the almost the same discussion with my advisor if I should get a PhD or start looking for a job. If I wanted a PhD, I was going to do a thesis and I also needed to start writing papers or I could just take more courses and finish my Masters without a thesis. He asked what I really liked doing...did I like doing research in lab, do I find myself reading textbooks and papers becuase the subjects were so interesting. The answer for me was no. I liked the practical side of programming, working on projects and fixing real world problems. I decided to just finish up my Masters and then get a job.
A MS is a good choice because you can see if you like doing research and still be able to make your final decision a few months down the road
I recently graduated with my MS in computer engineering. The reason it is easier to get accepted applying for a MS is that almost no aide is given by the school to these students. The department rather spend their resources on PhD students who will be providing services such as teaching and research for a few years. If you need aide, apply for a PhD and go from there. If you have other funding, apply for the MS.
When you are writing software for a company or a non-classroom project, reinventing the wheel is usually a bad idea. However, in the context of learning how to program, I think it is important for students to do their own work and not just copy code from the Internet or from the smart student down the hall.
I thought the movie was awesome. The battle with the Balrog was incredible. The only thing I didn't like was the weakening, ever so slighty, of Frodo's character. At the mountain, he just lets the Ring Wraiths stab him instead of fighting back. Also Frodo does not attack the hill troll using sting like he does in the book. Other than that, I have no complaints. I will be sure to see it again just for the balrog scene.
When I bought my DVD player this Christmas, I looked around for a player that would play CD-Rs because I knew my parents Sony did not and neither did my friend's RCA. I got decided on the Denon DVD-1000 because of the quality of the brand and the fact that it was one of the few that played CD-Rs.
But they will always live on in re-runs. Fox needs to have an all Simpsons channel...24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I don't think I would leave the house.

The new rules are just a license to cheat.
