For a number of years there has been the ability for Music Stores to print CDs and the CD jackets when a customer requests something they don't have in stock. Blockbuster Music I know at one time could do this. But it never caught on. And the benefits mentioned (esoteric, out of print, etc) didn't come through either. It was mostly a clever idea that just couldn't pay for itself.

There is no such thing as "metric time".
Actually, there is, but no one uses it. Except for principal Skinner. Scientists tend to use seconds for everything, even if it runs up in the 10^6 seconds.
I saw some ad somewhere about the movie and I thought 'self, that looks like a a movie from
Blizzrd, cool.' And for a trademark that's
really all that is needed. I suspect you don't have to be a member of the movie industry if it can be argued that they're both the entertainment industry.
The reason we continue to manufacture computers in the same basic manner, is that the science at a basic level has been most thoroughly researched around where we are. Silicon isn't neccessarily the best base material, but it's been worked with longer than anthing else.
If this happened tomorrow I bet we'd just be scrounging around for some old equipment to remanufacture everything basically along the same lines.
Historically publishers and bookstores liked libraries. They encourage people to read from a very young age. These people in turn by MORE books than they would without the encouragement of a library. When was the last time you went to a library? For a lot of you it was probably less recently than when you actually purchased a book.
Of course, given the current state of the US logic and rational studies have no buisness in lawsuits that rely on Ricki Lake upsetting fans.
I can just imagine some car companies and new presidents blaming the power outages on all those electric cars sucking power away from American Buisness.
I haven't noticed any problem with my setup.
I couldn't find a case I liked, so I just
took a milk crate and a whole bunch of
zip-tites and went to market. You'd be
surprised how hard it is to fit a whole
damn PC inside a cube of those dimensions.
I don't believe that a process has to be 'non-obvious' to be patented. I know that in the drug industry, processes are routinely patented in order to slow down competetors who are making me-too drugs.
Actually you couldn't saturate the WLAN with 20 people pulling files down. It's only a half duplex system, just like a hub, not a switch.
