For me computers are just a hobby. I have a buddy taking a computer science degree. He is in his third year, and he asked me to come over and install a videogame controller and set up his comptuer so he could play LAN games. Is this the type computer graduate you really want to hire... Yeah he has the "piece of paper" but it means obviously means nothing.
I'm just gonna play devil's advocate here for a minute. Everyone here is saying that science and tech is nothing without some humanities courses such as lit, history etc... I think these "artsy fartsy" people are nothing without tech/science courses. These people can't understand scientific theories or deal with abstract ideas. Its easier for a techie to learn history (They might find it boring), than a historian to learn coding and theoretical physics.
School sucks, I went to the University of Toronto, then transfered to York University, hated them both and dropped out. Both for science. Completed first year, failed everything else. It was boring. I stopped going to class, didn't study for tests (or didn't even show up).

I dont know if I buy that. ..People very much treat domain names as property--buying and selling them on the web all the time
This is only because of the potential to make money if you own a good domain name. Things like sex.com are URLS that people will type in just to try it out and see if it exists. I'm sure people....companies actually... have purchased the rights to a phone number because it would help with their business. Its just not as widespread.
I hope this movie isn't a let down like most movies "ported" over from TV. I was slightly dissapointed with the ST:TNG movies. I hope its a cartoon, and not something stupid like The Flintstones.
I wasn't comparing it to Fallout or Baldur's Gate, I have both of those games (liked Baldur's Gate better). Those games were good and original, Star Wars is an awesome series of movies, but the games suck.
Games based on movies are ok, but where is the creativity? I miss the good ole days of final fantasy or dragon warrior on the nes, or Wonderboy in Monsterland for sega. Those games where original and fun. I remember playing those for hours on end. Yes modern games have better graphics, no doubt this new Star Wars will too, but how good will the story line really be? Star Wars for N64 sucked in my opinion. The only reason games like this are successful is the money spent on advertising. I like games that become successful on there own merits, not because some company spends millions on advertising.
I havn't purchased a gaming console in a long time, however this one looks interesting. I wonder what the games will be like, and what gaming production companies will support it?
I don't have any experience with BSD, is this really exciting news? What is driver support like for BSD and how well can we expect these games to perform?

Question: Why can't Bill Gates get Dates? Answer: Because he's microsoft
LOL, thats the funniest thing I have heard in a long time
I hope they have some cool itchy and scratchy cartoons.
Read the Slashdot FAQ, sometimes good stories are rejected. Especially if its a busy news day

Been there, done that. Good idea though
