    I have played with touchscreens, but give me a solid feeling keyboard with LOTS of space any day. I'm still using my Model M from 1995, and got 2 spares for it now, in case it ever wears out.

    Sadly true. Most people don't even know the default port for SSH, SMTP or even freaking HTTP! How are you supposed to manage servers if you don't even know your default ports?
    Or even the commands to FIND what's listening?

    Yes, it's actually really common.
    I started looking into myself recently, since it's basically like a tweaky syntax of Perl (to me, anyhow) but with a simpler web output.
    Still seems pretty lame though.

    I swear, I'm SO sick of this driverless car crap. I don't want one, I don't want to share roads with one, I don't want to even see them.
    It's bad enough dealing with humans, the last thing I want is this.

    We HAVE a way to get around without you having to drive. It's called public transportation. Get on a damn bus, taxi, or train.

    I gotta agree. I mean, we know that they just made a sphere and mapped the photos onto it as a texture, but I would have preferred them to use either no star map or whatever was visible in the real photos.

    NASA doing crappy CGI just makes it harder to convince people of the real stuff.

    Yup, same here. I never *chose* to be a programmer, I wanted to work on AI/robotics. It just sorta happened, and I got out of that field *fast*.

    IT in general - just - kids, don't do it. When you do good work, they want to lay you off or outsource you. When you screw up, everyone hates you.

    My kids saw my work and decided to go into autos and welding. Says it all right there.

    I found that I truly detest reading on the new kindle, but the e-ink version and the e-ink Nook are both pretty nice.

    Interesting, as I'd argue that 3.5 and Pathfinder are like 99% the same, with the exception that Pathfinder doesn't have R.A. Salvatore on call, and they smoothed a few rules.

    But hey - play your game your way, that's what it's all about :)

    Totally agree. I'm a big fan of Pathfinder, and strongly disliked 4E, have literally no interest at all in 5E. For me, class D&D died with TSR did, Pathfinder sorta brought it back.

    I like their books, too, as well as their excellent online/mobile tools.

    If you allow children to watch movies like the Expendables, you're part of the problem.

    My kids didn't get to see much in the way of action/violent films or shows until they were in their mid to late teens. As I often say "Why the taboos on sex, and not on violence? I hope my children have sex some day, and I hope they never have to kill anyone".
    Not that I let them watch porn, either ;)

    Mostly they grew up with mythbusters, documentaries, science shows, and a freaking ton of books.

    Great dad, in my opinion. My kids grew up involved in hunting, fishing, and shooting sports - but a trip to a refugee camp would probably have cured them of the FPS BS faster than anything.

    Fortunately, they were never really into videogames.

    I use vim almost exclusively (windows or linux), and use it for PHP, Perl, and C++.

    Nearly every person I see now with a Mac is so rabid, I don't know if the problems have been fixed, or just glossed over.

    This new UX fashion is like skinny jeans - it's not something I want, it's not something I get, and I just want everyone off my lawn :D

    You can replace the batteries - I bought a little wrench off amazon to re-do the batteries in my Gameboy carts - worked great.
    I think you can have it done to them for like $10 if you're not handy with solder.

    The 12" Powerbook G4 was the end of my love affair with Apple. Every time I got an MBP, the dang thing would have some mechanical issue (catch fire, lose DVD inside, you name it). That G4 laptop though, it's still going strong with one simple keyboard replacement.

    My wife wrote 5 books on the dang thing, too!

    The one I use is gray, has a tiny bump connecting a mouse/keyboard PS/2 port, and cost like $20 at Fry's. No brand name, but it works like a champ.

    Same here. I have three of these - the one I'm using right now I've used it daily since 1994. Got a 1997 at home, and a 1990 model in the closet waiting for one to die.
