    The Apollo project cost 200 billion modern dollars. It's easy to accomplish a lot when you have the complete backing of every person in the government and a blank check.

    Half of the people in the federal government are actively trying to sabotage the ACA.

    I'm fully aware of the price differences, which have a lot to do with taxes.

    The parent post claims that prices in the US are at "record highs", when current prices are more than 30% lower than they were in 2007.

    This sucks. And I'm interested to see the follow up on it. But if you think the US is a police state, then you don't know what a police state is.

    This reporter was writing articles exposing government misconduct, and she's a free woman who is publicizing her story on the internet. That doesn't happen in a police state.

    Transporting them wasn't the issue. Feeding and housing them requires funds budgeted by Congress.

    You're right about people throwing a fit about having them inside the US. Obama had no say in the matter, because he's part of the Executive Branch. And Congress refused to budget money to feed and house those prisoners in the US.

    You can think whatever you want. But it was absolutely a budgeting issue.

    The current process of mining rare earths in China is horrendously bad for the environment, however because of Greenpeace inspired laws almost no else would do it.

    The Mountain Pass mine in California produced a majority of the world's rare earth minerals in the 80s. Then China got into the game and since they didn't have the added costs associated with environmental or worker safety regulations, they undercut the price of every other mine and put them out of business.

    Since China started limiting exports of their rare earth elements, the Mountain Pass mine is being reopened. I drove past it last week and there are at least 100 cars in the parking lot. It's on the north side of I-15 between LA and Vegas.

    The President is the Commander in Chief of the military. But he can't spend a dollar that hasn't been budgeted by Congress.

    That's "supply and demand". Labor is a resource just like anything else. As long as the supply of unskilled labor outpaces demand, wages (price) will not increase.

    The goal is to get to work and back. You can choose to be at risk for 20 minutes by driving a car, or you can choose to be at risk for an hour by riding a bike. If both choices resulted in the same injuries, you would consider bikes to be 3 times safer just because they're slower. But you are *forced* to ride for 3 times as long to accomplish the needed task.

    If you don't want to be monitored, don't take a job that involves operating equipment owned by someone else.

    You would have to be remarkably hardcore to bike 17 miles each way to work every day of the year- and then ride even more on weekends for recreation.

    I'm sure people do it, but they are extremely rare.

    The post is about commuting, where the goal is to cover the distance from your home to your job and back. The amount of time that takes is irrelevant.

    In your 20 years of driving, you've almost certainly logged more miles than that guy has in 40 years of cycling.

    All of these injury and fatality statistics have to be divided by miles driven/ridden.
