  14. Re:Whatta load... on CDDB Joins The Bad Patent Club · · Score: 1

    Brilliantly misread there.

You have a set of track lengths [ x,y,z...]

You want to find in a database a record which posseses that, or *very closely* resembles, that set of track lengths.

The query *returns* the information like album name, artist and the like.

So you need to either hash or set match on a database to get to the data.

Not simple, not obvious, not applicable to working with sums of times.

  15. Re:Once again: READ THE PATENT on CDDB Joins The Bad Patent Club · · Score: 1

Looking at it, no it doesn't. The complementary content is undefined. One can assume that is the current incarnation, it's track titling and artist info. There's nothing to cover synchronisation within the tracks, just pulling the appropraite data when the CD is playing.

    Q. What about the cash prize offered by SDMI?

SDMI did offer a small cash prize to be split among everybody who defeated at least one of the six technologies. However, to
be eligible for the prize, researchers had to sign a confidentiality agreement that prohibited any discussion of their findings
with the public. The terms of the challenge also allowed researchers to publish their findings if they decided to forgo the cash
prize. We decided from the beginning that we were more interested in publishing our results than accepting any share of the
    cash prize.
