Game companies are only making it harder for themselves. Combine LibSDL, OpenGL and OpenAL and you have a full cross-platform game development environment. And in my opinion it's even easier to develop with as you can focus on real standards.
I'm not German but Dutch and indeed we don't have something called a college. But some people think everything is like in their country, but I can live with that.
It's only that people here at Slashdot are not taking messages seriously anymore cause of some spelling errors.
And indeed in Holland (Germany as well) the verb for going somewhere and doing some work is 'do', if we say "go to" it's more like you go there and do nothing:). Read the Tuxedo Lexicon to learn more on that.
As I'm already programming (and doing other art stuff) since my childhood I also noticed this.
Example: A nephew of mine always was very jaleous on me making Computer Programs (Games..), Composing Music and a lot of other things.
He always tried to imitate me, like when I developed a game in C/C++ he did the same in Logo and Klik'n'Play (Even that he couldn't do, but as I felt very sad for him I always said is was okay:).
For that reason (I think) he went to an Unversity to become an Engineer, what I do as a job. I never did any Engineer (IT) school or University as I think it's a waste of time and can use my skills right now. If companies don't want me cause of me not having an Engineer certificate (or whatever it's called) it's their problem, then they should take someone like my nephew:|
So what I think... most of the really skilled people aren't even doing Universities and other crap. The only reason I would do University is to be able to use the fancy stuff I can never afford and to learn some techwords (over-hyped words).
Basically I think on most Engineer schools you'll find people who think they know a lot.
btw. I did MCSE just to see how it is like, I quit cause the new testsuite (they just got that day) kept crashing:P
ps. There are some nice Universities I would like to do, but if I will ever get there, I don't know.
It is a legal requirement that pre-installed operating systems remain with a machine for the life of the machine. If a company or individual donates a machine to your school, it must be donated with the operating system that was installed on the PC.
What I understand by reading this, is when donating a PC currently running Linux I previously bought with Windows pre-installed I'm violating the law (at least the American law). Correct me if I'm wrong?
I've been trying to explain most of the things like the DMCA, SSSCA / CBDTPA and software patents to (regular) people.
The problem is that they don't seem to understand and think I'm talking "bullshit", and the governments (USA, EU) are not that dumb to allow laws like this (even though, software patents and the DMCA are already active).
After showing them some websites they still don't understand (as it's too difficult for them to understand) and think I'm paranoid.
These are the: - how more expensive how better - and if that less people are doing/using it it cannot be good - I do what most people do, cause that's in the mode - if someone is different than me, he's stupid - I only know what I know and nothing more kind of people
And it's a pitty these kind of people are the majority, so please don't flame me by saying this, cause it's just what I noticed.
Anyway, can someone please tell me where I can find an easy explanation of these laws for everyone to understand.
Yep, I also have times I see a movie on atomfilms I'd like to watch. Everything goes fine till I get to the watch movie button. I tried to workaround this, but almost everything from that point is MS Windows specific. I also wrote them an email about this, but never got a response. I'm wondering if there's a way to link to a movie directly without the site checking for a proper player.

Yesterday my uncle called and told me about this, he was talking about a channel I never heard of and that it would start around 22:20 (GMT+1).
Now when looking in the tv guide I cannot find anything even close. There I no channel called Sundance Channel at all, I know there should be another channel also playing this documentary.
My uncle told me the channel is a german/french channel, and it's available in whole of Europe, can anyone living in Europe (Netherlands) please fire up his tv guide and look for the channel.
Hack it using:
/* IE hack */
;)
text-align: center;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
in the parent of the table you want to center

No they don't,the gfx cards are 128bit,
and even that is not always true.
It's just marketing that
let people think they have.

Correction:
;)
would make it on the frontpage, better!
And the site will be in English, French,
German and Dutch.
I didn't know about spelling control on slashdot,
I found an error in your comment as well, never
put "commas" before "and"
I'm working on a website about this ;)
:)
issue, easy for everyone to understand
I hoped this article to make it on the
frontpage, but there are only 10
comments currently.
You can mail me at machuidel@NOSPAMyahoo.com
without the NOSPAM of course
