    The rich have pretty close to 100% control over political office and media access. I don't really see the point in differentiating.

    Fair enough, though I still think my original point stands: most people (probably 95+%) would prefer there to be police and laws to discourage murder and other crimes, rather than have to manage all their defense themselves.

    That could be true, but in fairness at this point both companies are leveraging past investments and are mostly just sprinkling on a small dev effort for new features.

    If 100% of Adobe's 4.2B revenue comes from $700 Photoshop sales, that's 6M units/year, call that 24M units over the lifespan of windows 7 since release in 2009.

    So for every unit of Photshop, you have at least 27 units of windows. Factor in the 3.5X price and you still have about 8 equivalent units of windows for every photshop over which to amortize costs.

    That's actually the definition of effective tax rate. total taxes paid / total profit. It exists specifically to clarify the actual rate of tax paid after factoring in profit shifting, exemptions, progressive rates, etc.

    Almost none of our taxes go to that as it is. The rate is something like 0.7%, and generally that money is targeted at the kids who are relatively innocent victims of those mothers, in the hope that they might turn things around in the next generation.

    I assure you Accenture is doing plenty of evil all by itself, I wasn't confusing them with anyone else. For one little example, they are acting as a patent troll, trying to put smaller competitors out of business with completely bogus patent claims.

    I did assume in this scenario that not getting caught by the drug testing is more important than your facebook password.

    Not that it really matters, as you have plenty of DNA to hide your password in.

    Simple solution: modify your facebook password to match a section of your DNA. Then asking for any of those things would require you to surrender your facebook password.

    I think it would be reasonable to regulate both extremes since there is clear evidence of problems at both ends of the spectrum. But it isn't necessary to regulate the other extreme since there just isn't much in the way of publication there.

    Sure, if you believe the US is in for a double dip or another major financial catastrophe, we may not be able to maintain 2% over a decade. But unless something like that happens, 2% is a very low bet for our growth rate.

    I think this may be coming from the death throes of reddit. A similar phenomenon happened as digg imploded. Desperate to stop the hemorrhaging of users, they started spamming slashdot relentlessly in an effort to drive users back to digg. When digg finally went belly-up, it stopped, and there was a relative peace for quite a while. Now that reddit is going through a period of user flight, we seem to be getting a lot of angry reddit users posting odd stuff.

    If all you want to be is generous, it is what it is. If you want to be more famous or more effective, pure generosity may not be the best strategy.
