with the new Intel CPU's it's still cheaper to buy hardware than pay coders. our devs need more space. turns out it's cheaper to buy a new HP Proliant G6 server than just more storage for their G4 server. and if we spent a bit more we could buy the power efficient CPU which will run an extra few hundred $$$. a coder will easily run you $100 per hour for salary, taxes, benefits and the enviromentals. a bare bones HP Proliant DL 380 G6 server is $200 more than the lowest priced iMac
SW games are either a derivative of the FPS or the old WW2 style dogfighting/"sims" as they are called on consoles
The ST Armada RTS games were very popular but after a while they got boring as every mission was the same thing. they had a few single to a few ship combat games but they were a pain in the ass to play as you had to always spin around to fire weapons on different parts of the ship. even in the the 21st century we don't have this problem on warships.
it's the same concept as Madden NFL. A "realistic" game sucks because it's boring. A Madden type sports game is fun because you can score more than once an hour and it doesn't take 3 hours to play a game
With iPhone OS 3 Apple is making a big push into the medical market. In March and June they demo'd the iphone running medical apps like a hospital sending patient vitals to a doctor's iphone and Johnson and Johnson is going to be making add ons so you can measure blood chemistry with your iphone or ipod touch
for multicast to work it has to be planned and deployed by the same company. with wifi the place that runs the access point has the cheapest telco circuit, the whole thing is firewalled from the rest of the network and it's all made for quick network access. LTE is designed to offer advanced services over the network. think your cell phone network replacing your radio and a variety of other services
NYC they are all recycled. I see a lot of old 60 year old or so Chinese people taking them out of the trash and hauling them for the $.05 each recycling money back. they are always hauling hundreds of cans at a time. Since they live with kids or inlaws it's a nice source of tax free cash for them
Nice thing about the new Android phones is that developers are writing apps with work together with other apps. Almost impossible on the iPhone unless Steve Jobs rids himself of his total control fixation. Give it 2 years or so for this tech to mature some more, get more apps out there and have HTC and others build phones with a lot of storage like Apple does and i'll be junking my iphone 3GS come 2011 when my contract expires.
iPhone is nice even for all it's shortcomings, but Apple's total control fixation is going to hurt it in the long run and leave it as a niche device only for the cult of steve fanboys
Mac's cost a lot more than your typical corporate Windows PC as well so it's not like people will save money by going to Mac. And HR won't care that Mac's come with Garage Band
that's because most times it means opening up all kinds of security nightmares. when iphone 3G's first came out and people bought them, some thought we would actually open up imap through the firewall so they could access their emai
not to mention the apparent lack of 24x7 onsite support. i know someone who works in a Dell server shop and everything they buy comes with 27x7 4 hour response time onsite support. if anything in the server breaks, someone is onsite within 4 hours to replace it
xservers are crap compared to HP and dell. 1U server with only 3 drives is a joke. nehalem server and no support for 144GB of RAM? i just priced out 1U HP servers a few days ago and they can go to 144GB of RAM in a 1U server with 8 hard drives. and Apple only sells 1U servers and no blades. unless you are strictly an OS X shop or need OS X for something there is no reason to even consider Apple for anything serious
there is an exchange client on over 40 million iphones and ipods. even though people don't use it MS still get paid. Just like the old days when they would get paid from Dell for every PC no matter what the OS. Google is licensing ActiveSync as well for Android and Docs so MS gets paid again. Palm licenses AS as well.
It's pretty much a given that Apple is not going into the server business so MS is safe on that end.
The big loser is RIM. I bet MS was scared with the BB's success because it puts the importance of email on the phone, and not the server or client. people didn't care what server software ran the email as long as they could get emails anywhere. and since BES supported almost every email server it made migration a lot easier. Just try to migrate to a Linux mail server when all the users are using Pre's and iPhones to get email on the road
for all it's problems i still prefer my iphone over my blackberry. most times my BB gets thrown in my bag or just sits around the whole weekend while i use my iphone every day
enjoy CDMA and it's no voice and data at the same time. i carry a Sprint BB Curve as well an iPhone 3GS and my iphone can talk and do data or email at the same time. on my Curve if you talk you can't even send an email or surf the internet. Read about it somewhere and ran my own test where i called my phones from the other phone.
on our side of the pond we have cities with more cell towers than your entire country and we want coverage in every little corner in the US even if no one lives for miles around
this has happened for thousands of years, its the reason why some parts of the "fertile crescent" aren't so fertile anymore.
most of the genetic code across all living things is exactly the same

and Dell and HP laptops which will run half the price of the MBP for the same performance
that's your fault for buying an obsolete OS on a new computer
go buy a Mac, I've heard Snow Leopard will run on all Mac's ever made

no, everyone knows M$ employees are royalty
now that the spec is final, Apple will write a driver and make sure to enable n only via their WiFi access points

what's the big deal of dealing with creative works like any other form of property that can be passed down to family?
IE + OWA

TS on Windows is just Citrix lite and MS licenses it from Citrix. You have to install it first if you install Citrix's products as well.
Apple probably needs to pay Citrix some more cash for more features

check the price of the BB Tour on Verizon. it's more than the iphone per month
