But either way, this person might have to read some hate mail... what do you want me to do? Weep for the "Vice President of Corporate Affairs" at a big company called Nintendo who gets paid way too much for doing not enough?
I think they can handle abit of hate mail, don't you?

    WTF?

  5. Re:What I find disturbing on 10GHz Processors And Moore's Law · · Score: 1

Sure, the gap between software and hardware is getting larger and larger. It used to be if you don't have hardware from within the past year or even few months... you can't run the latest software.
But nowdays you can still run the latest software on a computer almost 2 years old. Do you really think it is because we cannot utilize the extra power?? The reason the power isn't being used is because people are hanging onto hardware longer now. There is a huge gap between CPU speeds (300 Mhz - 1.5 Ghz) and software needs to cater for slightly lower CPU speed audiences.
I'm pretty sure any game coming out within the next month could easily have taken advantage of a 1.5 Ghz chip and used it to its full potential but they need to cater for the lesser machines as well. Why buy a 1.5 Ghz chip then?? Its an investment. Initially, it won't be used 100% which is what you want when you buy a CPU. If you buy a CPU and its already being used 100% (and needing more power) then imagine what it'll be like in a few months.

  6. What would happen?? on Buffer Overflow In All Shockwave Players · · Score: 2

Lots of free advertising would happen. Sure, many people would be disgusted and uninstall it. But more people yet would now recognise the brand and product name. And Macromedia?? They wouldn't have any penalty imposed on them. Basically a virus distributed through flash would only be of benefit to Macromedia. Look at any of the softwares that have had big viruses distributed through their use and I think you'll find that they are more widely used than they were before.

  8. Many things overlooked... on The Top 15 PC Games Of All Time · · Score: 1

OK, Firstly, the actual article claims its the "15 Most influential games of all time" therefore NOT PC only. Which begs the question, which deserves to be there more... Half-Life or Pac-man? Tomb Raider or Space Invaders?
I think you can see what I'm getting at...
I think the most influential games list, would include only a single game from each genre. That single game need not be the "first" in the genre... but instead, the one that gave it a kick-start. (Catacombs 3D was the first FPS, but DOOM, Wolf3D and Quake gave the FPS genre the momentum it has today)

I'm pretty amazed Tomb Raider made it onto the 15 most influential... I reckon I could think of 15 games not listed that were more influential than Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider's marketing was influential, not the game.

I would have thought that stuff like Napster was the pinnacle of piracy?? I mean, its still not putting all that much of a dent in the music industry's profits (they've been going up consistently), but now oh-so-many people have on their HD's music that they don't own, and can within 3 minutes have any song they know the name of. I think Napster is a good thing -- the corporations really don't need more money, but I wouldn't say its "pppfffttt" kindof piracy, otherwise why are certain music organisations getting so anal about it?

  19. What are they basing it on? on Has The Internet Peaked? · · Score: 1

What evidence is there that the net has peaked?? Its not like things have been slowing down at all... ZDNet's small part of the internet has perhaps peaked, but the rest continues to thrive and grow. Consoles are about to be connected to the net (PS2, Dreamcast, X-Box), programs like Napster are pushing a cosumer revolution, instant messenger programs are becoming as used if not more so than the telephone. How is that anything but an upwards trend?? The internet isn't an economic stockmarket like some corporations would like it to be. It doesn't "crash".

  25. PS2 DC? on PlayStation 2 Software Synopsis · · Score: 1

Obviously the PS2 has only been out a few weeks so the best games haven't been released yet. But I was shocked to play Tekken Tag and see a very obvious line just below the bottom of the screen, only visible when the game was in motion. What was it?? Sprite meets Polygon. The ground was a polygon and everything in the background seemed to be pre-rendered!! Really, that means that Tekken Tag was just rendering the characters, some ground fx and a textured quad as the ground. I didn't count all the polygons but I think it was abit short of 20 million... I also saw SSX which looked like a pretty good game, but still not graphically amazing. Comparing this to what the Dreamcast had at launch I think I'd have to say that the Dreamcast launch titles were alot more visually impressive, taking into account the time difference. Some of the upcoming PS2 games do look like they will make up for this however... namely, Metal Gear Solid 2.
